Meetup people, let’s invade this year’s Water Lantern Festival, which will take place in Simi Valley. This is a free event to attend if you just intend to watch the lanterns. A lot of people did that the last time I went to this event, but if you want to purchase a ticket I will provide the link below. This is an Intermediate/advanced hike for physical conditioning to prep for harder mountain hikes. There is some steep downhill requiring hiking shoe tread. The uphill is gradual but constant. Pace is Intermediate/advanced. You can do one loop and exit or multiple. I usually do 3. Each takes about 50 minutes. I normally arrive at 8:55am. We will leave at 9 am sharp. MEETING PLACE : I will be right inside the green iron gate near the water fountain just off Mulholland Parking : parking lot near entrance gate. More parking on Mulholland but pay attention to signs. RAIN CANCELS This is a loop I do weekly. Each loop is approximately 2 miles/50 minutes. You can do as few or as many as you want. We'll go down the fire road to East ridge then come up West ridge fire road. I usually do 3 laps. You can exit at the Mulholland gate after any lap. Our Policy: Profile photo: Anyone interested in joining this event must have a profile photo showing his/her face. This is a requirement of L.A. Hiking. Without it, you will not be allowed to sign up for an event. Waiting list priority: People who hike with with L.A. Hiking regularly will be given priority when they are on the waiting list. Advanced hikes: Anyone interested in participating in advanced hikes (>3,000' elevation gain or distance > 10 miles or Difficulty Level > = 7) will be subject to prescreening before his/her name will be added to the list. Therefore, interested hiker must share with the event host his/her recent hiking background to establish proficiency before his/her name will be added to the list. Guests are not allowed on advanced hikes. Early departure: If a hiker needs to be separated from the group for any reason, he/she must inform the event host. Not knowing a hiker's where about may prompt the event host to report a hiker's missing to proper authority for further actions. No show: If you sign up for an event but did not show up, you will be removed from the next event you sign up. No minor: Meetup user agreement and our liability waiver can not be agreed to by a minor. Therefore, you and your guest must be over 18 to participate in our events. No drug: Zero tolerance for all illegal drug use. *** Warning: If you have prior medical condition or a family history of illnesses pertaining to heart, lungs, brain, etc. that can be aggravated by heat and physical exertion, this is not the hike for you. If you have never done a hike of this distance or difficulty before, this hike will be very difficult for you. It may well be your death march. The mountain is not going anywhere. Come join us for weekly friendly games of lower intermediate to intermediate level pickleball! Our goal is to create a group of reliable regulars and newcomers that are roughly the same level and want to play for social fun and exercise, but still challenge themselves to play better and better. (This is our first event to just to get things going, but once the heat subsides we'll set our permanent time and confirm the location) **LEVEL**: Lower intermediate to fully intermediate, approx. 2.8-3.5 level. We are friendly and welcoming, but this is **NOT SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS OR EVEN ADVANCED BEGINNERS.** If you are advanced intermediate (above 3.5) feel free to join us, but take it easy on the smashing and be encouraging towards the rest of us. **HOW IT WORKS:** We'll play on two courts and ideally we need 10-12 players for the best experience. **EVERYONE WILL GET TO PLAY MOST OF THE TIME** and against most other players. No cliques here! The winning pair on court A will move to court B and the losing pair will stay. The losing pair from court B will queue up for court A. Everyone will switch partners each time. Most people will keep on moving in-between the courts depending on the level of their partner and one should not care too much about the court for a friendly experience. **COMMITMENT:** Because we need exactly 10-12 people it is important that people sign up only if they are fairly certain that they will attend and drop out as early as possible, if necessary. We need eight people to start and finish on both courts, so please be on time and plan to stay for full 2h. If some people want to play another 1/2-1h I will stay to provide the nets. No guests allowed, unless I know them and I add them as my guests. **WAITLIST** (if needed) Regulars with good attendance records will get some priority. **NO CRASHING, PLEASE!** **BRING**: Your paddle, water and possibly a chair. I will provide the nets and the balls. **COURTS**: We will play on free courts that are easily available, but we have no reservations. (in the unlikely event that the courts are not available we will drive 3min to another S.Pas. location) There is not much fencing, so we play with many balls and let them run off till the end of the game. **ETIQUETTE:** 1) Have fun! 2) No apologizing for bad shots! 3) Tips on how to improve as players are appreciated, but only in between games. During a game only positive comments for good vibes, please! **PARKING**: Easy, free street parking. Enter from Bank St. **RESTROOMS**: Usually there is a Port-a-Potty on location. Autumn and Fall Colors is really an east coast thing . . . EXCEPT for the Eastern Sierra. Nowhere else in California does the foliage explode in color like this. The Quaking Aspens and the Cottonwoods turn and it is glorious. We'll meet up in Playa del Rey by the lagoon on Friday morning for a rejuvenating meditation and exercise session that is gentle on the back and joints. This session aims to connect body and mind and increase awareness through breath and guidance. We lubricate joints and strengthen the core while connecting with self, others, and the fresh surroundings. **Suggested donation:** $5-$25 But, no respectful people will be turned away if this is out of your reach! Give a little something or give a little more......when you can. **What to Bring:** -Towel and/or yoga mat -Optional cushion if you'd like to prop your head and back up while lying down or sitting -What you feel you need to protect yourself from too much sun: eyeglasses, hat, sunscreen, long-sleeve shirt...... -Water -A good attitude! Don't worry if you started the morning in a bad mood. Hopefully we can change that! But a good attitude makes it better for everyone. **Where to find us:** Park around the park. What could be more quintessentially California than a festival paying tribute to the Avocado, full of different guacamoles, and getting there on the Pacific Surfliner? This is the 40th year they've been having this festival. There is even Avocado ice cream! Entry to the Festival is free, and the booths are sponsored by local non-profits to raise money for their worthy causes. We've done this trip a couple of times, and it's always been fun. This unique festival is in Carpinteria, only a couple of blocks from the Carpinteria Amtrak station. It's one of the largest festivals in California, with three days of fabulous food and terrific music. [https://avofest.com/](https://avofest.com/) In case you didn't know, Santa Barbara County is the third largest avocado producer in North America, with Carpinteria being a major contributor. As the Festival has grown, so do the number of participants and festival-goers. In past years, over forty non-profit groups benefited by catering to 100,000 avocado visitors. The California Avocado Festival™ itself is a non-profit group that generates its own operating revenue each year. The annual event is completely organized by a committee of volunteers, and includes one part-time staff person. Our group will take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner from Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles, to Carpinteria. We'll walk to the Festival from the Amtrak station, just a few blocks.
