2026 WHALE TRAIL: Narrabeen to "Sunday Sippers" at Bilgola Beach!!!

From WE HIKE. WE WALK... to the BAR. Social Sessions in Sydney
4.9

We looooove our Sydney trails that treat us to **secret beaches**. We love finishing our events at **secret bars you’d never find**! What about an event… a **stunning hike that finishes at a** **secret beach bar** **with a band** that starts at 4pm bringing us right into a glorious sunset? On August 30, we did this hike but from the other way… Palm Beach down to Bilgola, and let me say this… **SUNDAY SIPPERS AT BILGOLA SLSC IS ONE OF THE COOLEST LITTLE BARS IN ALL OF SYDNEY!!!** It’s RIGHT on the beach. It’s only open once a month. And the bartender said “Late September we’ll have a full band on – it will be a great Northern Beaches scene.” **This hike is beautiful. This bar is unforgettable (burger, beer pic is from Bilgola SLSC). Don’t miss this HIKE!** **THE HIKE. Narrabeen Beach to Bilgola Beach - 13.5kms.** We'll meet at the bus stop in North Narrabeen ([CLICK HERE for exact point where 199 bus drops)](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Northern+Beaches+Community+College,+Pittwater+Rd/@-33.7022113,151.2985563,18.82z/data=!4m15!1m8!3m7!1s0x6b0d550541a46f25:0x5017d681632c2f0!2sNarrabeen+NSW+2101!3b1!8m2!3d-33.7222735!4d151.2984024!16zL20vMDM4eDgz!3m5!1s0x6b0d54e1517e958b:0x284ff3157c081ca9!8m2!3d-33.702148!4d151.298203!16s%2Fg%2F11gzdz06t?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDgyNi4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D) \- we'll discuss it in the [whatsapp chat too](https://chat.whatsapp.com/FXMgLB7M7Rp7jH6ol6nf8g)). The 199 bus stop is there, then we'll cross the road and check out the rockpool then head into **Narrabeen Headland** which gives the most spectacular views south. Onward we go to **Turimetta Beach** (10/10 breathtaking) and **Lookout**… to the **Turimetta Headland Reserve, Warriewood Lookout & Blowhole**, **Warriewood Beach (again gorgeous), then to Mona Vale Beach (voted 6th best in the world, Conde Naste)**… North of that? **Basin Beach. Bungan Beach**.... these two are truly beautiful. We'll climb out of Bungan then head to **Newport Beach...** around the headland is **Bilgola Beach**, and we'll descend down some lovely stairs right onto the sand where **Bilgola SLSC** lies. **13.5kms in total**. Beach walk. Inclines. And all the rest. Fitness required for this one. The **B1 bus / 199 bus are our friends all day to start, get home, and even provide some outs if you want to stop hiking and meet us at the pub.** If you parked your car at the start (there is free parking but DIY research) it's super easy to bus back south. Post-pub the 199 bus is literally up the stairs from Bilgola and runs every 10minutes. We'll arrive at the pub about 320pm (330pm opens)... I get it. It's Sunday. If you want to leave? That's okay. One drink. Stay longer? All options are open... See you for one of my favourite Sydney hikes and definitely my favourite (new) secret bar! **100 FOOD & MARKET STALLS? CRONULLA FESTIVAL 2026 IS ON! Cronulla, Kurnell, and "[Cook at Kurnell"](https://www.cookatkurnell.com.au/) (pub)** is part of Sydney not many have been to. Trust me, this hike is one you'll want to do. With the whales coming south, the cliff faces are the perfect viewing point(s) in September. If you've come on our Macmasters Beach to Killcare Beach & **Hardy’s Hideaway Pub** it’s in a similar spirit. If you missed it? Here’s your second chance at a memorable session... **Cronulla Beach to Kurnell / Kamay Botany National Park to the site of Captain Cook’s Landing to… “Cook at Kurnell”** for food and drinks. It's a 14.86kms hike. Imagine this: *“Hey Davo. Grandpa died. He left us the beach property. Let’s put some booze and beer kegs into his VW van and make a service window. And let’s empty out his trailer and put a kitchen in it. We’ll add picnic tables, umbrellas, live music and open a beach bar called Cook at Kurnell.”* Who knows if that's true. But **Cook at Kurnell** is exactly that kind of joint… **I’ve been to the bar – love it. I’ve done an hour hike to Kurnell – love it. And I love the Tozzi family who owns it.** **So? Grab my arm, and join me.** **[JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP HERE](https://chat.whatsapp.com/HYGPMLQZHHNGKCkEytRbQr)**[.](https://chat.whatsapp.com/HYGPMLQZHHNGKCkEytRbQr) Team, please stop here. After you hit attend, come back to the event page - click on the link, and join the whatsapp group. Find me. Trains arrive every 10minutes. Coffee and bathrooms are right there. Bus to the starting point. **1020am Hike Starts!** **After the pub finish, 987 bus is right by Cook @ Kurnell that drops:** a) Close to the basketball courts (for drivers); b) Drops us train riders back at Cronulla Station where Cronulla Festival is on. Easy! Winding through **Cronulla dunes** **and onto the beach** we’ll elevate into **Kamay Botany National Park**… I’m not going to write a lot about it. It’s absolutely beautiful. Cliffs. Ocean. Views. It’s 10/10 (look at the pics from the last hike). It’s medium-hard with some uphill bits but nothing crazy difficult. 14.5kms so be fit, healthy, and bring some good energy and thirst for a beer or two. Long Wknd Nite Hike. Stunning 7kms Taronga Zoo to Balmoral Beach Hike! Beer too!

Long Wknd Nite Hike. Stunning 7kms Taronga Zoo to Balmoral Beach Hike! Beer too!

Fri, Oct 2, 7:30 AM
From WE HIKE. WE WALK... to the BAR. Social Sessions in Sydney
4.9

A few months back we hiked Coogee to Bondi at nite, then this hike - it was really, really cool. Beer before... and (meal) after. Love it - it's a different kind of energy when you hike in the evening. Just posting this on Wednesday - let's see if we can get 8-10 hikers for Friday :) High of 21 degrees too - perfect! Let's hike post-sunset Taronga Zoo towards Balmoral Beach while talking shit and licking our beautiful city then head up to the lovely Buena Hotel in Mosman (one of my favourite Lower North Shore pubs) for a great pub meal. ***Taronga to Balmoral***. It’s an Aussie fahkin' beauty of a due to its diversity… Of course the ***ferry ride from CQuay to Taronga (ferry leaves at 545pm - be early*** is amazing, and the first stint of the walk transports you to another part of Australia – it’s a rainforest start to ***Bradley’s Head*** with perfect views of ***Sydney Opera House / Harbour Bridge***. Turning the corner we’ll stop at a secluded beach then carry on to ***Taylor’s Bay*** – the greenery / plant life there will amaze all. [NOTE: YOU MUST JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP FOR THIS EVENT HERE.](https://chat.whatsapp.com/DFaK1MR9dKB8F3bqWCoint) From there the walk heads to ***Chowder Bay***, one of the coolest little beaches that not many Sydneysiders know of. There’s a café / bathroom stop there, then up the only real incline to ***George’s Head***: a historic military spot with the most picture perfect view from Manly to the CBD. We head back into the bush for a 15min walk to the ***Balmoral Stairs*** that will guide us down to Balmoral Beach. ***(SAFETY NOTE: I'm recommending a head lamp if you don't have one, but "I'll just use my mobile phone's light" was sufficient last time. For safety get to KMart... they are $10)*** Post-food / drinks you have many transport options from Balmoral Beach / The Buena to get back home or to Wynyard. I'll guide you. Oh, stay tuned for location to meet at 430pm. I'll be at a pub from 5pm around Circular Quay warming up... join from 5pm-530pm then we'll walk to the ferry wharf as a team. See you for a fun Friday session! MJ **_____________________________________________________** **THE DETAILS.** **WHATSAPP.** You’re not 100% confirmed until you’re in the whatsapp group.
