Playful hike #75 **A donation of 2 euro in cash is required at the start of the event. This is uniquely to cover the 6 month Meetup fee that keeps the group alive, then we stop. Also, we limit it to maximum 6 euro per person for that period so contributions are more evenly distributed. Thank you for the support :)** 🌞 Sun, see, sand, and Schmöckwitz! Whilst it might not roll off the tongue, Schmöckwitzwerder is Berlin’s own lesser-known island paradise, and we’re ready to explore it! With Saturday’s weather looking fabulous, why not join us for a fun and laid-back hike around the island? Where else can you lounge on the beach in Berlin state and cross into Brandenburg’s waters with just one splash? We’ll be taking our time, with plenty of swim breaks to cool off in the Zeuthener See and soak up the rays along the Dahme River. 🌊 Nature lovers, bring your binoculars! You might spot herons, kingfishers, or even white-tailed eagles soaring above. 🐦🦅 And guess what? Schmöckwitz is home to Berlin’s southernmost point! The island is sprinkled with charming old villas and cute boathouses. Maybe pack your favorite games—whether it’s frisbee, möllky, viking chess or a deck of cards, it’s the perfect place to relax and play. 🏖️🏡 Join us for a day of fun in the sun! 🎉 Join the Party on Telegram: Hop into the group in this link [(Telegram)](https://t.me/+8-_rnJBuabBkNjI0) for all the event details, updates, and to keep in touch with our community. Remember to update your RSVP (Attend/Won't Attend) if your plans change. The Game Plan: Route on [Komoot](https://www.komoot.com/tour/1807597005?share_token=aqO5xmwJCGupXfG1uAn5Uynm1blBfR2BhlTuc4m2DkwJY2EXXg&ref=wtd) We’ll meet up at Alt Schmöckwitz in BVG’s ZONE B tram stop at 10:37am. From there, we’ll stroll around the island at a chill pace, making sure to enjoy every moment. We’re more about the swim-and-chill vibes than power hiking, so expect to splash around in at least two spots and take it easy. I can’t promise any coffee stops, food, or bathrooms along the way, so pack whatever you need to stay comfy maybe a picnic —think swimsuits, towels, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and maybe a hat for that extra sunny day. Start Meet at Alt Schmöckwitz tram stop at 10:37 am. I am taking the S8 from Ostkreuz to Grünau. I’m aiming to take this one and I’ll be at the front carriage of the Sbahn. Sbahn 09:48 - departure S Ostkreuz Bhf , **Platform 11** with **S8 to S Grünau** 10:10 - arrival S Grünau Tram (Tram stop just across the road from main station) 10:23 - departure S Grünau with 68 to Alt-Schmöckwitz 10:37 - arrival Alt-Schmöckwitz (also final destination of the tram) I’ll share my Live Location in the Telegram group so any latecomers can find us. End We’ll wrap things up back at Alt Schmöckwitz, but the time is open-ended. If we’re up for more fun, we might hop on one of the last BVG ferries to Müggelberge. Tickets: AB Zone A Few Friendly Reminders \- You’re responsible for your own safety—play safe\! \- Bring the right gear: comfy clothes\, good shoes\, and enough food and water to keep you energized all day\. \- We might snap some photos to share the fun\. Let us know if you’d rather not be in them or need any edits\. Can’t wait to see you out there! 🌞

2 day hike: Witches on the Rocks - advanced hike through the Harz; 15+25 km

2 day hike: Witches on the Rocks - advanced hike through the Harz; 15+25 km

From BerlinTravel Meetup

Let's do another **two day hike** through the Harz mountains! **Important info - please read it now:** * This is a non-commercial event. You are responsible by yourself to research and book your accommodation in the area. You are bearing the complete risk (bad weather, etc). * After signing up for this event, please immediately research accommodation and book it. When you have booked accommodation, please send me a private message containing the place where you are staying. If I do not get a message within 36 hours of signing up, I need to presume that you are not coming. I will then need to remove you from the participants to make room for other interested people. * We will stay at the village **Schierke.** At the moment, there are still a number of accomodation options, but accomodation is limited. * For transportation, having a Deutschlandticket is certainly the most recommendable and most economical option. * **This is an advanced hike. You should wear proper hiking shoes and have a certain surefootedness. On day 1, we will walk between 15 and 20 km and have to manage an elevation gain of 820 meters. On day 2, we will walk between 21 and 24 km and have to manage an elevation gain of 750 meters. Expect that you need to climb over fallen trees and rocks. At some points, you might need to use your hands to stabilize your steps.** **Itinerary** **Day 1: Saturday, June, 13th** * 07:05 Departure with HBX train from Berlin Hauptbahnhof station (stops also at Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstraße, Hauptbahnhof, Zoo, Wannsee, Potsdam) * 10:17 Arrival at Wernigerode * 10:40 Historic steam train from Wernigerode to Steinerne Renne * 10:58 Start of our hike. We will see the Renneklippen, the Steinerne Renne waterfall, the Waldgasthaus Steinerne Renne, the Ottofels, the Leistenklippe and the Eulenstieg on that day. Optionally, at the end of our hike, if we did not already reach our personal Elendstal (valley of misery), we can walk through the geographical one. * We will arrive at Schierke between 16:00 and 18:00. **Day 2: Sunday, June, 14th** * 9:30 Start of our hike at Schierke. We will walk up the Eckerlochstieg to the peak of the Brocken. At 1141 meters, this is the highest elevation in northern Germany. From there, we will descend north-wards. We will come by the small but many Ilse waterfalls. * After around 21 km, we will reach Ilsenburg, where we can refresh and have dinner. * Depending on our speed or mood, we will take the train back to Berlin at 18:30, 19:30 or 20:30. The train ride back to Berlin takes roughly 3.5 hours. **Accomodation** I cannot give any recommendations on good places to stay. Yet, to facilitate your research, here are a couple of possible places in Schierke: * [Pension zum Hexenstieg](https://www.booking.com/Share-6Tj1KTs) * [Pension Schmidt](https://www.booking.com/Share-seX3l0) * [Gasthaus Brockenhexe](https://www.booking.com/Share-soFsVwa) * [Hotel Brockenscheideck](https://www.booking.com/Share-9nn0BE) There are certainly also more options which are not listed on Booking.com. Feel free to use the comments to search for fellow hikers which might want to share apartments with you. However do not wait too long with booking, as options might go away.
