Fun Urban Hike in Historic Coney Island and Beyond

Fun Urban Hike in Historic Coney Island and Beyond

Sat, Jun 6, 5:00 PM
From Appalachian Mountain Club New York-North Jersey
4.8

Before Orlando and Vegas, Coney Island was America's premier amusement area, with fabled parks called Steeplechase, Dreamland and the original Luna Park, along with Nathan's hot dogs. On our hike we will see where these places were, and what became of them today. We will also walk by the Brooklyn Cyclones minor league baseball stadium, the landmarked Wonder Wheel in Deno's Park and the new Luna Park. We also visit an outdoor street art museum, as well as a Coney Island history display nearby. We end the day on the boardwalk, going to Brighton Beach, where we can get the subway. We will walk at a steady, moderate but not slow pace over a distance of around 4 miles, stopping at places of interest. There will be no lunch stop, so bring some snacks along if you wish. (This hike is intended for adults 18 years and older and please no dogs). Rain or even questionable forecast may cancel or modify; check website for latest updates. We meet at 1 PM at the Nathan's Famous outdoor seating area near the public restrooms, located at 1310 Surf Avenue in Brooklyn, right across from the Coney Island Stillwell Avenue subway station, which you exit at Surf Avenue. Take the D, F, N or Q train to Coney Island Stillwell Avenue, whichever is most convenient. Arrive early if you wish to buy food, in anticipation of long lines. You have an option of signing a paper liability waiver at the meeting place, but encouraged to do so online on the AMC website by clicking on link below: [Fun Urban Hike in Historic Coney Island and Beyond (Moderate) | AMC](https://activities.outdoors.org/s/oc-activity/a5UVX000001APz32AG/act00021624)
