Writing Group (LIVE at the All Good Bookshop)

We're the All Good Bookshop writing group - we've been around for 10 years now. We offer writing feedback and discussion, whatever your level. Never been before? That's fine. Can only come once in a while? That's fine. Want to come regularly? That's fine. While we're predominantly narrative-based, any type of writing is welcome. Fiction, non-fiction, screenplays, novels, short-stories... bring it along and see if it fits. The cost is £5 to join us. Half of this goes to the bookshop and the other half goes towards snacks/drinks for everyone. Pay when you get there. (If you're having any financial problems, feel free to have a discreet chat with Chris about it). HOW IT WORKS First, we do introductions, which cover: 1 - Who you are 2 - What kind of thing you write 3 - What you're working on 4 - What you've done in the last two weeks. Then we find out who has stuff to read out (1,000 - 2,000 words), and who has questions/discussion points. If you'd prefer to do written hand-outs, you can as well. We then run through as many people as we can fit in, so they can read out or run through a discussion point. The group is run by Chris Brosnahan, an experienced writer and a long-running facilitator of writing groups. HOUSE RULES 1 - No egos. Everyone's stuff is up for criticism/feedback. 2 - Be constructive. We're not a review group - we're trying to help each other improve. 3\. No pressure\. You can turn up and just observe if you want \- you're not under pressure to read out or feed back\. 4 - We do our best to be a safe space. You don't know the backgrounds of everyone in the room. If you're going to read something that might be problematic or emotionally difficult, talk about it first - and if you're unsure, ask. 5 - We do our best to be a safe space. For particularly graphic scenes, please discuss in advance. A reminder that listening to erotica is, in itself, a sex act, and needs the enthusiastic consent of everyone involved. 6 - Content warnings apply. This doesn't just mean things like sex or violence. It also includes things like abuse, long-term illness, death - think of things that someone may find difficult if they're dealing with at the moment. We do our best to be a safe space. 7 - If you're struggling with anything being read, you can take a break without any justification or questions. 8 - Banned question: "Is this based on your own life?" - it doesn't add anything and can make discussion awkward. Please don't ask it. 9 - Let other people talk. You'll get your chance to feedback or ask questions, but it can be all too easy to talk over people. At 'night' time, players close their eyes and some are woken one at a time by the Storyteller to gather information, spread mischief, or kill. ☄️🎬SAM NEILL DAY PART I: EVENT HORIZON

⚫ ***Did you know that Event Horizon’s gravity drive was inspired by the puzzle box from Hellraiser? Oh yes, baby… and there’s a lot more where that effing spaceship came from.*** 👋 **What’s up guys!** We’re beginning our tribute day to the late, great **Sam Neill** with one of his most memorable journeys into horror, and unfortunately for **Dr. William Weir**, this particular journey appears to go **straight down to Hell.** Or is it up in space? I don’t know now. Director **Paul W. S. Anderson**, the genius bad ass behind this journey of madness, designed this ship as a kind of **flying gothic cathedral** and modelled its rotating corridor around the **Nine Circles of Hell from Dante’s** **Inferno**. Basically, this ship was doomed from its conception, long before anyone had the nerve to switch the bloody thing on. If you want a taste of what **2047** could potentially look like, then follow this rescue crew as they investigate this mysterious experimental starship as it suddenly reappears out of nowhere, opening a gateway into pure, malevolent chaos. As this ship drifts through space like a sentient gothic tomb, the vessel weaponises the crew’s deepest traumas and forces them to escape its living corridors, twisting their reality and completely shattering their sanity. **Oh boy, this movie is effing insane.** 😈 **The Meetup:** We’ll be meeting up at **2:30 pm** at **Victory House Wine Bar**, where we’ll decide which horror movie universe you'd least like to face alone. Join OverBoard to play the brilliant social deduction game Blood on the Clocktower in person at the brand new board game cafe Otter Chaos in Brixton. If you haven’t heard of Blood on the Clocktower before it is an evolution of classic party games like Mafia/Werewolf where a hidden evil team takes on the good team by lying and killing. The good team has a few tricks up their sleeve but will have to work together to deduce who the evil doers are in their midst. **This is a beginner friendly event so no experience with the game is necessary.** Please note that a gaming cover charge of \~£5 will be payable by each attendee to the venue so that we can make use of the space. We also encourage you to buy food and drink from the bar so we are supporting the business (I can highly recommend their pizzas!) London Society FREE WALK - Blackfriars to Battersea Power Station

Have you ever wanted to be immersed within either the city or nature in the form of a walk and socialise at the same time? If so, this may be the right walk for you. Welcome to another one of the FREE WALK events where you have the opportunity to explore all the scenic routes I’ll execute whether there’s nature within, whether we get immersed within the city and feel great about yourself. 

With this particular walk, we will be walking down the river from Blackfriars to Battersea Power station. As we go along the river, we should see remnants of what makes the skyline, Tate modern, The house of Parliament and any other scenic views on the way. A transition from East Central to South West. After this, we may do an aftermath if you wish and let democracy decide. Doc in a Day | Filmmaking Challenge

**NOTE: Kick off location will be announced closer to the event and will be in a Zone 1 location with easy transport links!** Doc in a Day is a **filmmaking challenge** where participants **create short documentary films in 36 hours.** This is about learning through practice in a friendly and fun environment. We aim to screen all of the films submitted, where you can catch up with the other participants and documentary film professionals give feedback on each film, announcing a winner and runner-up. Prize: \- The winning film you've made :\) \- The winning official crest/laurel to add to your film and promotion \- The new friends and industry contacts you would have made *\* We also usually organise a visit to a documentary production company for the winning teams, so they can pitch an idea and gain industry insights. **But at the moment this is not guaranteed,** it would be a bonus - we're currently trying to source a company to visit.* *** WHY 'DOC IN A DAY'? * Create a short doc, build your portfolio * Make meaningful industry contacts * Get feedback and learn from experienced professionals * Improve your skills and practise with new kit * Have a blast collaborating with like-minded people *** HOW THE COMPETITION WORKS Saturday 10:00 – Gather to network and **create teams.** Come alone, with a friend or a ready-made crew! Our organisers also help form teams. 11:00 – We pull a **theme** from a hat (also published here, in the event WhatsApp group, Instagram and Facebook). Recent examples include 'Truth', 'Change' and 'Thrill'. 11.01 – **Go, go, go!** Get planning, shooting and editing your films. Sunday 23:00 – Deadline for submissions (via a dedicated WeTransfer link) Around a week or two later 19:00 – ***Screening event***, where you can catchup with the other participants and documentary film professionals give feedback on each film, announcing a winner and runner up. *** ENTRY COST £20 early bird (recommended as limited spaces available) £25 on the day The cost covers both the competition and the screening event. *** Some people come to this competition with years of experience and professional equipment; others make their very first doc this weekend.
