5K every week till the snows come down! Or try to! We'll meet by the track. I'll be there early to warm up. We will start the 5K exactly at 9:30am. As mentioned in the About Us, * Using the park track we can all go at our own pace and never really be left behind unless we all finish way ahead of you. :D I think an hour is enough time to dedicate to the run. I'm pretty slow, so you will likely have me around for most of the hour. * Members are free to leave the run whenever they want. * Bring your kids, your pets, your partners, etc. * All encouraged to stick around afterwards and enjoy the park or neighbourhood on your own. * Let's get stronger, healthier and foster a great community at the same time. Niagara-on-the-Lake is known for its incredible heritage architecture, charming streets, and fascinating history—making it a perfect destination for a Doors Open day trip. *** ### 🏛️ What is Doors Open? If you’ve never attended before, **Doors Open** is a free architectural and cultural event held in communities across Ontario. For one special weekend, cities open the doors to historic buildings, cultural institutions, churches, theatres, and other interesting spaces—many of which are normally closed to the public. Visitors can explore at their own pace, learn about local history, and sometimes go behind the scenes with guided tours or special access. The Bridle Path is famous for being the richest address in Toronto. Most people don't realize that the neighbourhood just to the north is equally affluent. Fife Road and Fifeshire Road are lined with swanky mansions, one of which was featured in a highly successful Canadian comedy. This hike is an opportunity to gawk at luxury homes before we exit into the lush foliage of Windfields Park. The park is also home to the bucolic Canadian Film Centre. Unfortunately, rich neighbourhoods don't have good restaurants. There's only one decent one, a Cantonese restaurant, where we can have dinner. **Highlights** 1. York Mills Arena (depart 6:15 pm) 2. # 🐟 Salmon Run at Humber River & James Gardens 🍂 ### An Easy Fall Walk — With a Pretty Amazing Natural Show Along the Way Every fall, something incredible happens right here in Toronto. Salmon make their way upstream through the **Humber River**, battling rapids and leaping through the water as they return to freshwater to spawn. And yes — you can actually see them doing it. Join us for a relaxed, social walk along the Humber River during salmon run season. We'll spend about 30 minutes by the river watching for salmon before continuing along the trail toward **James Gardens**. This isn't a difficult hike. It's a chance to get outside, enjoy the fall scenery, see something you might not normally experience in the city, and spend some time with other people along the way. ✨ **Fun Fact:** Some salmon travel more than 3,000 km from the Atlantic Ocean to reach freshwater rivers like the Humber. After all that distance, they still have to battle rapids and leap over obstacles to reach their spawning grounds. This isn't one of our regular walks where we're simply following a trail and enjoying the scenery. **This is a curated storytelling experience.** I've researched the locations, developed the route, and put together the stories specifically for this experience. We'll explore some of the darker corners of the university and surrounding neighbourhoods while uncovering the people, places, and legends that have given them their haunted reputations. 🕯️ Along the way, we'll hear stories about: * What the Christies — yes, *Mr. Christie Cookies* — were hiding in their mansion 🍪 * The restless little girl who is never happy 👧 * What might really be lurking inside Queen's Park 👀 * Haunted stories connected to University of Toronto buildings * The Royal Conservatory of Music * The Royal Ontario Museum * And some other stories that are better experienced after dark... 👻 You don't have to believe in ghosts.
