Join us as we discuss Fictions by Jorge Luis Borges over a pint (or several...)! New members are always welcome. **Description:** The most popular anthology of Jorge Luis Borges's short stories, Fictions is a wildly original and influential collection of fantastic tales. Jorge Luis Borges's Fictions introduced an entirely new voice into world literature. It is here that we find the astonishing accounts of 'Funes the Memorious', the man who can forget nothing; 'Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote', who recreates Miguel de Cervantes's epic word-for-word; a society run on the basis of an all-encompassing game of chance in 'The Lottery in Babylon'; the mysterious world of 'Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius' which seems to be supplanting our own ; and the 'Library of Babel', which contains every possible book in the whole universe. Here too are the philosophical detective stories and the haunting tales of Irish revolutionaries, gaucho knife fights and dreams within dreams which proved so influential (and yet impossible to imitate). This collection was eventually to bring Borges international fame; over fifty years later, it remains endlessly intriguing. Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A poet, critic and short story writer, he received numerous awards for his work including the 1961 International Publisher's Prize (shared with Samuel Beckett). Tuesday club night session - Advanced players only

Hi all (Please note the session price is now £12.50) We are a small, competitive but friendly badminton club who are playing at Swiss cottage leisure centre in London on Tuesdays. We are opening up a few spots each week for advanced players only to attend our members club night session with a view hopefully to joining the club permanently. Any known members of other clubs that have no intention of joining the club who sign up will not be allowed to attend. We play on 4 courts at Swiss cottage leisure centre from 8-10pm. We play with feather shuttles and charge £12.50 per session. Book Club’s Fifth Birthday

It's that time of year again! Time to raise a glass and celebrate our 5th anniversary! Whether you've been here since our first meeting or just joined recently, we'd love for you to be part of the celebration. Come share your favourite book club moments and help us toast to many more years of reading together! We’ve booked the general area at the Player’s Social Cocktails & Games Bar in Spitalfields from 7pm till 9pm with shuffleboard, darts and foosball and general hang out afterwards. Extras like food can be bought at the venue. Bring your cheer and competitive spirit and contentious opinions about the books we’ve read!

The Book Club in London

A relaxed London book club exploring the most influential book in history. Whether you think it’s rubbish, holy, or you’re simply not sure what to make of it, you’re very welcome. We meet for two hours at a time. Our reading list includes books from the Bible — as well as some of the books that didn’t make it into most Bibles. The Bible has shaped culture, law, art and ethics for centuries, yet many people are personally unfamiliar with it. Each evening is structured but informal. The group chooses the book or books to read, and discussion takes place in small groups. No lectures. No pressure. No need to prepare anything in advance. The aim is thoughtful, respectful conversation. Plenty of people feel they know quite a bit about the Bible, yet struggle to read it. This is a space to explore it thoughtfully and honestly — in good company. This club is for: • Curious thinkers • Skeptics • Christians with questions • Anyone who wants to make up their own mind Our only rules? Be curious. Be honest. Be kind. And enjoy yourself. It’s also a chance to find a bit of community along the way. Photos may be taken during the evening to share on the Meetup page or social media to help others see what the group is like. If you prefer not to appear in photos, just let the organiser know at any time. We meet in a private room on the second floor of the Duke of Sussex pub. The Sobell Badminton club Friday sessions start from 7.30pm, finishing at 10pm. Welcome to our regular club night session for intermediate level players and above! Sessions cost £10 for Members, and £12 for Guests; please contact an organiser to discuss becoming a Member. Session are held at: Twyford Sports Centre Twyford Crescent Acton W3 9PP We have 3 courts from 8pm to 10pm. Only high quality feather shuttlecocks are used. Shower/change room facilities are available. A water fountains is available outside the venue, though we recommend bringing your own water in case it is not available. Sobell Badminton Club: Advanced

We hold our weekly club night at Sobell Leisure Centre: \- Tuesdays 7pm\-10pm \- Courts 1a\-1d \- Sobell Leisure Centre\, Tollington Rd\, London N7 7NY\. We are a friendly, competitive club for players at high intermediate to advanced / league standard. Not suitable for beginners or lower intermediates. We are always looking for new competitive players. The club has a regular attendance of around 25 players, and will be participating in the Middlesex league in ladies' doubles, Open doubles and mixed doubles in the 2025/26 season. We play doubles or mixed doubles only, with top quality feather shuttles. Please RSVP if you like to attend, or don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. Guest Fee is £17 for the 3-hour session. Enquire for our membership options. Please be prepared to pay by bank transfer or cash.
