✨ **Community Meal Service at Good Shepherd** An opportunity to come together as a group to serve the homeless and those at risk in our community. **Registration** Toronto Joy is now using our website as the main place to stay connected and register for events. **To attend this event, please visit:** [https://torontojoy.org](https://torontojoy.org/) *After completing the quick registration, please select this specific event. This helps us prepare, stay connected, and make sure everything is organized for everyone attending.* *** During our recent sessions, we served meals, chopped veggies, made sandwiches, and helped prepare pasta. Each session is similar, but the tasks may vary depending on what is needed that day (e.g., sorting food). We had a great time serving together with lots of smiles, laughter, and good energy. Every session gives us an opportunity to come together, support the community, and share meaningful moments while serving alongside one another. *** **Only 6 spots are available.** If you sign up, please do so with the intention of attending, as the organization relies on our numbers for planning. We will send a reconfirmation message closer to the date, and if any spots become available, we will reach out to those on the waiting list. *** **Arrival Information** When you arrive at Reception, the staff will guide you to the volunteer room, where you can place your belongings in a locker and meet the group. Below are simple guidelines on what to wear, safety, and other things to know: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1piAyloECv9YUDkPJuoJBdCmh3x8n1un1rGvJSFIkbs4/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1piAyloECv9YUDkPJuoJBdCmh3x8n1un1rGvJSFIkbs4/edit?usp=sharing) *** **Good to know:** • Closed-toe shoes are required. • Tie back long hair and wear minimal jewelry. • Water will be provided, but feel free to bring your own bottle if you prefer. • **Please arrive by** **1:40 PM at the latest** so we can plan who will be doing which roles and begin together. • If you can’t make it due to an emergency, please message me as soon as possible 🙏 Grateful to serve alongside you.

Avengers’ Saturday Cafe for the Homeless

Sat, Aug 29, 3:00 PM
From The Avengers Club
5.0

Note: You may be removed from the attendance list if you've participated in the previous week's event. This allows for more people to experience this Meetup. Avengers put your costumes on and let’s go and save the world!
Well we can’t save the world (yet), but we aim to try to play a small part in the lives of those experiencing homelessness by making their day a bit better!
Description: Before the event the organizer will post a list in the comment section of the attendees and what they are responsible to bring (food/drink, kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies). We normally ask each attending member to bring approximately $15-20 worth of ingredients/supplies to our event. We will use the items to prepare and serve food/drink at The Meeting Place.
Timeline: We will meet on location at 11:00 am, with lunch served between 12:30-1:00 pm.
Membership Dues: Membership dues are $2.00 for the calendar year. Membership dues go towards paying for food/supplies incurred by no-shows. Membership dues are due at the first meetup of the year that you attend.
No Shows/Late Un-RSVP: We’re relying on members who RSVP to bring key ingredients for recipes! Please try your best to show-up or alternatively change your RSVP early so another member may fill the empty spot.
\*\*\* If you are on the waitlist, keep checking as you may be moved into attendance to replace someone. We will try to message you to confirm your attendance in advance.
Donations will be assigned before the event.

Fireside Chat: Wildfires, Climate Change, and is it Too Late to do Something?

Fireside Chat: Wildfires, Climate Change, and is it Too Late to do Something?

Tue, Aug 25, 9:00 PM
From Democracy by the Bonfire

RSVP ON LUMA IF THE EVENT IS FULL https://luma.com/njw2te98 Join us for our very first first event on **Tuesday, August 25 at 5:00 PM** by the fire pit in Trillium Park! This one is sponsored by Apathy is Boring and their Table Topics initiative, so if you are between the ages of 18-30, you should come for the **FREE FOOD!** Three weeks ago, Toronto ranked first place in worst air quality in the world as we woke up to orange skies caused by wildfire smoke drifting in from northern Ontario. It was a sobering reminder that the climate crisis isn't going away, and sooner or later we are going to have to confront it. Come sit by the fire, roast some marshmallows, and have some thought-provoking discussions about what we can do better as a society. **The Agenda** **5:00-5:05 - Icebreaker:** After everybody introduces themselves, the facilitator explains the agenda, introduces this week’s topic and asks the following icebreaker question. * What were you doing on the day when Toronto had the worst air quality in the world? **5:05-5:20 - Lecture:** Facilitator recaps the climate policies proposed and delivered by the government on a federal, provincial and municipal level so that everybody is up to speed. **5:20-6:00 -** **Addressing the elephant in the room:** Let’s talk about the hard questions! The facilitator will ask the following and people move to a rock depending on if they agree, disagree, or are undecided. * We’ve missed our window of opportunity and there is little we can do to fix it now. * Canada can’t do much even if it wanted to given that America’s contributing most of the emissions. * Having a greener future requires us to sacrifice our comforts or else make major lifestyle changes. * Climate action can’t be at the expense of economic growth. **6:00-6:10 - Food break** **6:10-6:50 - Diagnosing the Problem:** Here we break out into small groups and start to discuss the actual policies being put forward in Canada and how we feel about them. * Carbon capture * Consumer facing carbon price * TBD **6:50-7:30 - Moving Forward:** Time to stop ruminating and start building. Here we regroup to talk about solutions we can work towards so that we don’t have to fall into the pit of despair. * What is the responsibility of the individual, government and business when it comes to moving towards a greener future? * If you were suddenly prime minister what policies would you implement so that Canada can reach the Paris agreements? * If you could redesign one part of the business you work for to make it dramatically more sustainable, what would you change? * Is there an environmental habit you’ve changed that you’re proud of? If not, what habit would you like to adopt? **7:30 - Socialize:** The meetup is officially over, but you can stick around to chat by the fire and make some new friends! **[Join our Discord!](https://discord.gg/PxAsXAGfJj)**
