Here, nature reigns supreme. In the heart of the Supramonte mountains, goats, sheep, donkeys, and wild boar roam freely through forests of strawberry trees, holly oaks, and ancient oaks. Overhead, the majestic royal eagle soars, nesting on the highest peaks and guarding this pristine paradise. The ancient Greeks called it **olbìa - ‘happiness’**. It is the gateway to the island and the driving force behind the economy of the Gallura area. Many flights arrive there, and it is a good town to stay in and explore before or after the trip. After the pick-up, we will take you to the Porto Taverna beach for your first swim and lunch. There is a high chance you may see flamingos there in the freshwater lakes, located close to the beach. We will make our way to the accommodation in Cala Ganone in the afternoon. The exact itinerary of the following days features the highlights listed above and will be shared with attendees closer to the day. Every day is planned with care and adjusted according to the most recent weather forecast. **LOCATION** We will be based in Cala Gonone, a seaside town, rising up from the Golfo di Orosei. It is located on a steep hill at the foot of the extinct volcano Codula Manna and slopes down to the gulf. From here you can go on to discover numerous beautiful bays, such as Cala Ziu Martine, Cala Fuili, Cala Cartoe and Cala Luna, a beautiful pale blue bay dominated by steep, lunar grey rock walls. Cala Luna is one of the Mediterranean’s most enchanting beaches. Graced with a beach of almost powdery sand and surrounded by blooming oleander trees, it was the setting for the Lina Wertmüller cult **film *Swept Away***. The park is a protected marine and terrestrial area off the northeastern coast of Sardinia, Italy. It comprises a group of granite islands and islets known for their **crystal-clear waters, unspoiled beaches, and rich marine biodiversity**. The park preserves important Mediterranean ecosystems and is valued both for its natural beauty and its role in marine conservation. **Capo Testa** is a striking rocky promontory in northern Sardinia, near Santa Teresa Gallura, renowned for its **dramatic granite formations** sculpted by wind and sea. We’ll hike through history and countryside, arriving in time for the famous Stonehenge solstice atmosphere. When we reach Stonehenge, you decide how you’d like to celebrate: 1. **Head back to London straight away** * Taxi/shuttle back to Salisbury (\~30 min), evening trains to London until \~23:00. 2. **Stay for Sunset (21:22)** * Enjoy the atmosphere and watch the sun dip behind the Heel Stone. * After sunset, return to Salisbury for late train to London. 3. **Stay Overnight for Sunrise (04:44, 21 June)** * Experience the stones at dawn — a unique spiritual moment. * Field closes \~08:00; first trains to London from Salisbury \~05:00 onwards. For our ancestors, the Summer Solstice marked the peak of the sun's power – a time of abundance, fertility and light. **Stonehenge's precise alignment with the solstice sunrise** is no coincidence – it may well have been created to celebrate this extraordinary turning point in the year, when the sun reaches its highest point before the days begin to shorten once more. During the Summer Solstice, music, dancing, singing and centuries-old rituals fill the air. 🥁🎶 The sunrise is welcomed with joy, gratitude and an outpouring of good energy. Many come simply to embrace the vibrant, mystical atmosphere and share the moment with thousands of like-minded people. It’s also **one of the only times you can stand right among the sacred stones and even touch them**. The stone circle opens to the public just twice a year – during the Winter and Summer Solstices. On any other day, Stonehenge is roped off and can only be viewed from around 10 metres away. 🚧 And the best part? Entry during these rare solstice celebrations is **completely free** – while on a normal day, visiting Stonehenge costs around £30. Bag checks may be carried out, with illegal items confiscated and entry refused. * Alcohol and drugs * Drones * Glass – this is to protect livestock and wildlife that graze in the area, plus visitors who walk barefoot during Solstice. **TRANSPORT** As on most of our trips, we'll travel in a comfortable 16-seater minibus. **TRAVELLING TO THE MEETING POINT** The meeting point is accessible by normal tube service – please allow extra time for your journey. Last trains run around midnight, so Night Tube or special arrangements shouldn't be necessary. **BOOKING** To keep ticket prices down and avoid PayPal/Meetup fees (£7 extra per ticket), we kindly ask for payment by bank transfer.
