⛰️ Hiking Snowdon – The Highest Mountain in Wales

From London Social Hiking

################# **On this trip, we're going to stay in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Caernarfon – only a short walk from one of the most famous castles in Wales!** **We’ve created a list of [FAQs](https://drive.google.com/file/d/12gIZWTLfA3zQsx1fb0lpv1zOWP2vC5tq/view?usp=drive_link) to help answer your questions.** ################# The Snowdonia National Park boasts vast areas of natural beauty and unique scenery. It is also known as “Eryri”, a Welsh name that can be translated as “the place of the eagles”. Covering 838 square miles, it is the **largest and oldest national park in Wales**. There are nine mountain ranges here and they cover over half of the national park’s surface. Departing from London early on Saturday morning, we'll head to **Snowdon – the tallest mountain in Wales**, at an elevation of 1085 metres above sea level. Starting from **Pen-y-Pass mountain pass**, we'll climb Snowdon via the **Pyg Track**, which offers one of the most popular and scenic routes to the summit. On our way, we'll enjoy exceptional views of the beautiful **glacial lakes of Llyn Llydaw and Glaslyn**, dramatic cliffs and the surrounding peaks of the Snowdon Massif mountain range. The descent is via the **Miners' Track**. It's so called as it was originally built to serve the Britannia Copper Mine on the slopes of Snowdon. After an initial steep descent, we'll follow an easy and gradual downhill path along the shores of beautiful lakes, past the historic mine buildings. After the hike, we’ll travel to the **medieval, UNESCO World Heritage town of Caernarfon** to check in to our hotel, enjoy dinner and relax. On Sunday, we'll visit the hidden gem – the Aber Valley on the north coast, with its spectacular cascade of waterfalls. The **Aber Falls** tumble down 40 metres from the Carneddau mountain range, and have earned the title of **the most “Instagrammable” 📸 waterfall in the UK**. We'll follow the **North Wales Path** along the scenic hillsides and enjoy superb views of the coastline and Lafan Sands. After the hike, we'll take a short drive back to Caernarfon, where you'll have time for lunch and also to visit the superb **UNESCO-listed Caernarfon Castle**. This large royal fortress was built on the orders of **King Edward I** of England during his conquest of Wales in the late **13th century**, and is recognised around the world as one of the **best-preserved examples of medieval military architecture**. **ITINERARY** **Saturday:** **06:45** Meet outside Hotel Novotel London West, 1 Shortlands, W6 8DR (a five-minute walk from Hammersmith Station) **07:00** Sharp departure **13:30-19:00** Hike to Snowdon via the Pyg and and Miners' Tracks (difficulty: [Difficult](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BMjvqhAAdSeCdyzLPHs0z04_e2TiKdci/view?usp=sharing), distance: 12km, ascent: 810m) **19:30** Check-in at Premier Inn Caernarfon Hotel, dinner and free time **Sunday:** **07:00** Breakfast **08:00** Departure **08:30-12:00** Hike to the Aber Falls (difficulty: [Easy](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BMjvqhAAdSeCdyzLPHs0z04_e2TiKdci/view?usp=sharing), distance: 11km, ascent: 320m) **12:30-14:45** Lunch in Caernarfon, free time to visit the medieval UNESCO-listed Caernarfon Castle and explore souvenir shops **14:45** Departure **21:00** London, Hammersmith **DIFFICULTY & EQUIPMENT** Please note that this trip requires a good level of fitness. Wed, Jun 10, 6:00 PM
From Alpine Trekkers UK

Kindly understand that This is Not an online event. We created this for the people to communicate with each other (in the comment section) to find their travel mates. However, since the Meetup site requires a date and time. We constantly have to update the date and time to keep the event alive. **Dear friends,** If you have plans to travel somewhere in the world, and you are looking for a travel mate/roommate, you can post it here to let others know, and maybe you can arrange to travel together. It would probably be a good idea to meet up before deciding to travel together but at least this will give you a chance to find a like-minded travel mate. **How to Choose the Right Travel-mate** 1. Have some common interests. 2. Avoid people who tend to extremes. 3. Agree on expenditures before you leave. 4. Make sure your personalities 5. Friends aren’t always good travel companions 6. Don’t go backpacking with a luxury-seeker 7. Make sure you’re able to communicate 8. Agree on a similar budget 9. Avoid picky, crazy and whiny individuals 10. Test each other on a short trip 11. You don’t have to be like a couple of inseparable lovebirds Good Luck and Cheers, Ree & Smyl

Amberley to Worthing – South Downs backcountry paths & Cissbury Ring

Amberley to Worthing – South Downs backcountry paths & Cissbury Ring

Sun, Jun 7, 7:15 AM
From AAA Hiking & Outdoor Adventure
4.9

**WHAT TO EXPECT - HIKING INFO** Distance: **25km** (c. 15 miles) Ascent: c. **585m** Estimated Duration (approx): **7 hours walking (moderate pace 4km/hr)** Difficulty: **Energetic** **HIGHLIGHT** · Great views from Amberley Mount and Rackman Hill · Undulating paths over the downs heading south towards Worthing · Slow ascents and descents on remote paths away from South Downs Way · Visit the ancient and most historic hill fort in Sussex – The Cissbury Ring. · Optional sea swim at the end! **DESCRIPTION** *This walk is on paths less travelled over South Downs rolling hills with fantastic views along the way. There is an optional sea swim at the end for those who want to cool off after a good day’s walk.* This is a beautiful part of the south downs with fantastic views and rolling hills - and with some neolithic and bronze age history along our way. We start our walk in Amberley as we head up our first hill onto the South Downs to Rackman Hill for fantastic views looking north towards the North Downs – hopefully we will have good views on the day. We then head south over rolling hills and forlorn paths, meeting locals who know the less travelled parts of the south downs. I have chosen a route which meanders past other settlement hills and hopefully with views over to the sea. We pass Finden for a refreshment stop after 14km (no pub stops before then). We then head over to Cissbury Ring – the oldest hill fort on the South Downs Way. It boasts much history - a neolithic flint mines, bronze age burial ground, iron age hill fort, a roman mint, a tudor vantage point before it was investigated archeologically by the Victorians. Then onto Worthing for a drink and a swim! Option at this stage is to head back to London or go down to Worthing Pier and have a swim. *ps. My walks make time to enjoy the views, take in local history, and look at interesting buildings along the way.* **PROGRAMME** You can choose to **meet at London Victoria or the Hike Starting Point**.
