Segment Four - 7 June : Meadowbank to Obervatory Hill (Barangaroo) Weather looks good. Take the 8.37 ferry from Circular Quay to Meadowbank arriving at 9.30. Alternatively, train from Redfern platform 4 at 7.40 AM. If on the train take the Bay Drive from the station towards the harbour (down hill). Check transport schedules beforehand please. Meet at the Meadowbank Ferry Terminal for a 9.35 start. This segment is 35 kms and relatively hilly. There are lots of toilets, water refill stations and food options up until the Lane Cove cafe at the causeway at the bottom of the hill, then there is nothing on the route until you arrive in Wollstonecraft. There are a couple of steep climbs . One is on Anzac Avenue in West Ryde/Deniston is a 11% climb with a steeper 12% section. The second one is the very long 11% climb out of Lane Cove up Fullers Road. The first safety issue is at the intersection of Station Street and Victoria Road near West Ryde Station. It’s a right turn and a buses only R turn. The Brooke Street Motorway underpass is awkward and slow. My thanks to Fran and Peter for detailing this segment. Watch for updates closer to the departure date.

Its time blow the cobwebs away with a riverside, bayside and seaside sojourn on a longer but still a relaxed ride on hopefully a sunny winter day. Meet at the fountain in Lackey St Summer Hill (near the train station) we'll go to the Cooks River pathway then join the new Muddy Creek path and onto the Botany Bay side pathway to Captain Cook bridge. We can stop at Sans Souci for a swift coffee before heading over the bridge to hug the bay again, past Shark Park and across to the seaside, head to the dunes lookout, then on to the cafe at the Wanda Beach SLSC. After another break for refreshments its back towards Sydney Park, past St Peters and Marrickville, through back streets to Stanmore and finish up again at Summer Hill. There will be numerous train stations along the way to bail out (check track work notifications closer to the day). This gentle paced ride of around 50 kms takes us mostly along shared paths though there will be some street riding and a number of traffic lights and busy road crossings to negotiate. **Start and Finish place:** The Fountain in Lackey St Summer Hill **Start Time:** 8.30am for an 8.45am departure **Finish Time:** around 1.30pm. **Cycling fitness level:** very easy/easy/\*\*MEDIUM\*\*/hard/very hard **Distance/ Speed:** \~55km [+140m]; with moving speed averaging 14-17kph depending on congestion. **What You Need:** Bicycle in good working order, helmet & bike lock, water, spare tube, Opal Card in case you need to bail out early. Bring clothing layers. It may get windy and cool on the coast. We will ride mainly on shared paths for approximately 3/4 of the ride with a mix of back streets towards the end. Check this MeetUp entry for updates if weather is iffy. Contact me, Tim Coen on 0408 691 541 for any further information or queries.
