The Gaming Olympics

Hello Fellow gamers! The Gaming Olympics is the ultimate test of your gaming experience and skill! Not 1 but 10 games to square up and dominate the competition in! **Rules:** There will be 1v1, free for all, teams, and solo objective matches. Each game will be played in rounds. Once all players have their rankings there will be a 30 minute to 1 hour break so we can setup the next game. During these break periods players may play any game they like wherever possible but can only play non-tournament related matches during the break periods! Once a round begins all unrelated stations will be paused or shut down to avoid distracting the competitors. Be prepared to be here all day, we estimate the competition could last as long as 12 hours! There will be water and snacks available for all players with pizza ordered fresh around 1pm. We will order a variety to satisfy as many preferences as possible. If you snack or eat- please wash your hands before touching any gaming hardware. Wiping with a napkin is not enough. Players who do not follow this rule may be docked points. Participants are encouraged to bring their own controllers, consoles, monitors, and games to play in official matches or casual break time play! All players are expected to be courteous with other player’s equipment. Players are also expected to be kind and respect each other. Poor sportsmanship may result in immediate removal from the venue. Highest score wins\. 1st – 10 points 2nd – 7 points 3rd – 5 points 4th / 5th – 3 points **Mario Kart** – 4 Player race, no bots, map chosen at random at the start of the round. 1st – 10 points 2nd – 7 points 3rd – 5 points 4th – 3 points **Overcooked 2** – Teams of two, level chosen at start of round, highest score wins. 1st – 10 points 2nd – 7 points 3rd – 5 points 4th / 5th – 3 points **Mortal Kombat XL** – Brackets, Single elimination 1st – 10 points 2nd – 7 points 3rd – 5 points 4th / 5th – 3 points **Halo 1 (MCC)** – Teams 2 to 4 players, brackets, single elimination, Map: Bloodgulch. 1st – 10 points 2nd – 7 points 3rd – 5 points 4th / 5th – 3 points **Batman Arkham Asylum** – Single stealth mission, complete all objectives, fastest player with all objectives complete wins. Final rankings will start with those who completed all objectives, followed by those who missed 1, then 2, etc. Among those who completed the same number of objectives, the fastest will be ranked highest. 1st – 10 points 2nd – 7 points 3rd – 5 points 4th / 5th – 3 points **Left 4 Dead 2** – Teams 2-4 players, survival mode, map chosen at beginning of round, longest time wins. 1st – 10 points 2nd – 7 points 3rd – 5 points 4th – 3 points The player with the most points after all rounds are complete will be named the winner and prizes will be distributed based on ranking. **RSVP Policy:** 16-participant maximum. 32-total bodies including guests. One guest is allowed per RSVP. If you RSVP please be sure you are free and plan to participate. SAT @ 12:30pm Arcadia 3s/4s Grass Volleyball (Intermediate Plus)

**Intermediate to Advanced Players ONLY!** **PLAYERS:** For the safety and enjoyment of all players, you must be at an Intermediate and/or above skill level, meaning that you can Serve, Pass, Set, and Hit the ball over the net ***ACCURATELY AT LEAST 70%*** of the time AND you *KNOW* and *FOLLOW* all of the basic rules and etiquette of volleyball. ***Failure to meet this standard may result in your removal from the RSVP list and/or the event.*** **EVENT HOSTS:** Reserve the right to remove players from the RSVP list and/or Event based on the player NOT meeting the required SKILL level of play, NOT being able to keep up with the PACE of the games, posing a RISK on or off the court to other players, NOT following the rules of the Event and/or Park, and/or at their own discretion. **SKILL LEVELS:** A fuller description of player skill levels can be found on the "About" page of SoCal Grass Volleyball. **RSVP:** You must be listed as "Going" on the RSVP list to play. If you signup for an event, but are then unable to attend, please be courteous and change your RSVP to "Not Going" so that someone on the Waitlist can attend. **WAITLIST:** Joining the Waitlist does not guarantee you a spot to play. Players will be added to the "Going" list based on a few factors, including whether one or two nets will be set up that week, reliability of attendance, and balance of players. ***Priority will be given to regular and high-skilled players.*** **CANCELLATIONS:** If you develop a pattern of RSVPing and then cancelling (for example, you cancel more often than you attend), you may automatically be moved to "Not Going" to allow other players, who want to play and show up consistently, a spot to play. **LATE CANCELATIONS:** Late Cancelations will be marked as a "No Show!" **LATE ARRIVALS:** If you will be **arriving more than 30 minutes late**, you must notify the Host. If you develop a pattern of arriving late (regardless if you notify the Host or not), you may be removed from the "Going List" and/or the group. **NO SHOWS:** Two "No Shows" and you may be removed from the group! **SAFETY:** No collisions with players (on your own team or under net). **TEAMMATES:** Volleyball is a team sport. Players are expected to know their position on the court and be aware of their fellow teammates positioning. Players should not be passing/setting/hitting/spiking their teammates ball and/or lunging for every ball simply because it is within their reach. **FUN:** No Arguments! If there is a questionable play, we will do it over. **FAULTS:** Let players call their own faults (unless egregious)! BE KIND! **SCORING:** Games to 25! Rally scoring. Win by two. **SERVES:** Let serves are good. No attacking the serve above the net. **NETS:** Touching the net is a fault unless the net is pushed into you. **DINKS:** In games of 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s, Open hand dinks/tips will not be allowed. You must use a closed fist, strike the ball, or roll it off of your hand. **You may NOT push, tip, or redirect the ball with an open hand!** **BLOCKS:** Touching the block will not count as one of the three contacts. The blocker can re-hit the ball. **LEGAL HITS:** The ball can be played with all parts of the body EXCEPT the Head. ***You may not intentionally hit the ball with your HEAD*** (because it results in an unhygienic, sweaty volleyball). **SETTING:** Intentionally setting the ball over the net must be in the direction the player is facing (forward or backwards). Accidental oversets are not a fault. **The sets over the net must be clean (with no more than one rotation) and may NOT be redirected. No Throws!** **ROTATION:** Teams of Four or more players must use a standard rotation where by all players rotate through each position. The serve must come from a backrow player. Backrow players cannot attack the ball from above the net past the ten foot line. **ANTENNAS:** No antennas, so the ball must cross the net between the poles. **PARK RULES:** We are guests at the park. **Players and game designers wanted for this open house style event! NOTE: Due to Halloween, Skunkworks is out, and you should BRING YOUR SPOOKIEST GAME.** **FEE:** $8 to play at Geeky Teas - payable at the event to Geeky Teas at front desk. If this is your first time showing your game at FPLA, please introduce yourself to either Damon or Cassandra (one or both will be near the front of the room) before your session for a quick explainer on how to get your game to the table and what to expect from playtesting.* **SCHEDULE:** Game days have 3 segments. **You do not need to come for the whole day!** However, it is good etiquette if you are testing your own game to stay and test at least one other designer's game as well. 11:00am - 1:00 pm **OPEN PLAY TESTING** This is unstructured play time, ideal for short games (45min or less), 2 player games, and games that require a quieter environment. If you're a designer, grab an available table and let people know you are looking for players. If you're a player, just sit down at a game and play! **SESSION ONE** 1:15pm - 3:15pm **SESSION TWO** 3:30pm - 5:30pm Scheduled sessions are the core of First Play! This event we have three scheduled sessions, with about 4-6 games running during each time slot. Following moderator announcements, each designer running a game will have the opportunity to do an 'elevator pitch' to players. After which, players decide which game they want to play. Two hour sessions are ideal for games that are 60-90 minutes, and have been playtested multiple times before. After play, be sure to leave time to give and receive feedback. Come play board games and card games with us at the Downey Library. We welcome starting players all the way to expert players. Please bring a copy of the games you would like to play, or we have copies to play. The Downey Public Library also has a collection of games to play. Some examples of popular board games are Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, and Terraforming Mars. Some examples of popular card games are Flip 7, Century Spice Road, and Splendor. We like to learn new games and to teach new games. There is no fee, and food and drink is welcome, just please clean up after yourself. We are in the area, to the left of the main entrance. Expect bluffing, accusations, alliances, betrayals, ridiculous defenses, and extremely confident decisions based on almost no information. PLAY OR WATCH Want to play? We save several onstage game spots for audience members who want to come and compete against the comedians. Prefer to watch? That works too. Follow the mystery, root for your favorite players, and try to identify the werewolves from your seat. Audience participation is completely optional, and no previous Werewolf experience is required. Odyssey Games is a decently sized board game shop in Pasadena If you haven't checked the place out, They have wide selection of board game, card game table top game as well as miniatures games for purchase. They also have a big area for casual gaming, as well as a library of board games to play if you do not bring your own. There is no cover fee, but please consider purchasing a snack or drink to help support the store for hosting us.

Are your D&D games feeling a bit...gray? Let's get together and get some color on our minis with social painting sessions at Geeky Teas & Games on Mondays from 1-10 pm. Each week, we'll break out the paint pots and brushes and host a social painting session. Participants can bring their minis in and join in the fun as part of our standard $5 gaming fee. Our store painting kit includes a wide array of Army Painter paints and washes, brushes, and palettes.
