Hey party people! Come hit up Paper Hero's for a chill afternoon of board games with East Valley Board Games. Also, BUNDLE UP, as it can get quite chilly in our corner of the store. Layers are good. The gaming details: Attendance: This is a drop-in event, so you don’t have to stay the whole time. Come for an hour, come for two hours, show up late, leave early. As long as you clean up any mess that you leave, you're good with us and the wonderful store runners, Andrew and Zoey. NOTE: It is advisable that the best way to get in on a game without waiting is to come at the beginning of the event at 2pm. Otherwise you might have to wait for a game to end and another to begin. Parking: Paper Heroes is located in a strip mall on the northwest corner of Burbank Blvd. and Hazeltine Ave. in Sherman Oaks. No, we don't know why Meetup lists the city as Los Angeles and not Sherman Oaks. There are a few parking spaces in the small shopping center, and we would suggest looking for street parking as well. Since it's Sunday, meters will be free. **Important note: It's been brought to our attention that there are a few 1 hour parking signs around the venue, so as always, check parking signs carefully so you don't get a visit from a parking fairy.** We have had good luck parking on the east side of Hazeltine, just south of Burbank. Food: Outside food and drink is allowed in. We just ask as always that you are careful so as not to spill. There's a coffee shop next door, Nat's Early Bite, which is open until 3pm. Just please be careful and don’t spill food or drink on games, or you’ll be expected to replace them, which we think is a fair policy. Also, there are some game mats placed on some tables around the stores with signs asking patrons to not place food or drink on top of them. PLEASE RESPECT THIS RULE. Don't be a jerk. Guests: Guests are great! Just be sure to note it in your RSVP, and if your guests' plans change, please update your RSVP. Please understand that you are responsible for making sure that your guests spend at least $5 at Paper Heroes to support the business. More info on that in a second. Store policy: PH is asking that every person who attends our events makes at least 1 purchase or purchases $5 store credit to use in the future (the store keeps an account for you). Snacks and drinks can be part of this, but they're not ideal. It's a gaming store (also comic books!) after all (and was affected by the pandemic). What we like to do is put aside a list of games we want and buy or order them from PH, rather than get them from Amazon (doesn't Jeff Bozo have enough of our money?) The store runners and East Valley Board Games organizers (Felicity, Joe, and Alan) will remind you at the event. Games: Feel free to bring your own games, or just play the ones that others bring. There's always a healthy selection of strategy games, word games, party games, and so on.

September is that time...back to school, new beginnings, fresh starts, and high spirits. Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks

Friday Night Board Gaming (formerly Friday Night Dice) is a meetup for everyone who likes board games. And if you’re new to board games, our friendly gamers are happy to teach you how to play. We play basic European board games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, etc., and more advanced games like Suburbia, Power Grid, Terraforming Mars, and Railways of the World. Also war games & card games. We bring lots of games, but you’re free to bring your own! We used to game at LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society) in Van Nuys. However, as that organization sold its building we have moved to Paper Hero's and Games, a game store in Sherman Oaks, and we continue to meet every Friday late afternoon and evening. We share the gaming space with a large group of Magic the Gathering players but we easily have room for between 10 to 20 board gamers who usually show up for board games. Most of these gamers are regulars who just don't bother to RSVP as this is a store open to all comers and requiring a Yes RSVP is not feasible as we are often joined by store customers who see what we are doing and ask to join in - and we always say YES! (As most gamers do not bother to RSVP, quite often our home page will just show me as the only attendee even though we may have almost 2 dozen gamers at our tables. So, if the home page shows just 1 person attending, pay no attention to that as we may very well have full house of gamers.) So come on down and get your gaming fix this Friday at the friendly and comfortable game store. We have beginners and advanced gamers, so everyone is welcome.

Ultimate Werewolf Comedy Show: Comedians vs. the Crowd

**ULTIMATE WEREWOLF COMEDY LEAGUE: COMEDIANS VS. THE CROWD** Come play—or watch—Werewolf, the social-deduction game similar to Mafia, reimagined as a live comedy tournament with professional comedians. **TICKETS** **$15 at the door** Advance tickets are available through Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ultimate-werewolf-comedy-show-tickets-1996182339112 Seating and onstage player spots are limited. Please RSVP on Meetup but especially get tickets on event brite if you’d like to guarantee your spot. Part comedy show. Part social-deduction tournament. Complete chaos. Six professional comedians who have performed at venues including The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, and the Laugh Factory will compete across three live games of Ultimate Werewolf alongside volunteers selected from the audience. A few players will secretly be assigned as werewolves. Everyone else must identify them before the werewolves eliminate the entire village. Expect bluffing, accusations, alliances, betrayals, ridiculous defenses, and extremely confident decisions based on almost no information. PLAY OR WATCH Want to play? We save several onstage game spots for audience members who want to come and compete against the comedians. Prefer to watch? That works too. Follow the mystery, root for your favorite players, and try to identify the werewolves from your seat. Audience participation is completely optional, and no previous Werewolf experience is required. The rules will be explained, and each game will be hosted so the action is easy and fun to follow. The comedians will earn points throughout the tournament. The top three will qualify to return for the next show, and the evening’s champion will close the night with a victory stand-up set.
