From Fellowship of NYC Slothians and Tortoises

come join us as we embark on hiking the entire 41 miles on the **[Old Croton Aqueduct (OCA) trail](https://parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/old-croton-aqueduct-state-historic-park)** section by section over multiple weekends. **FIRST UP:** We will start the OCA journey **in CROTON HARMON** and then head north to the New Croton Dam and then end in **OSSINING**. Total mileage will be **9 MOSTLY FLAT MILES.** **Post-hike, we'll do an optional CEVICHE and COCKTAILS dinner at Karma Lounge located right next to the OCA trail in Ossining!** **ABOUT THE OCA**: The Old Croton Aqueduct (OCA) was NYC's first water supply system. It was built between 1837 and 1842 as the solution to the city's over population and the twin scourges of fires and diseases, and served as NYC's first water supply system with fresh water delivered from Westchester all the way to Bryant Park/42nd Street. The Aqueduct remained in service until 1965 when it was supplanted by the New Croton Dam and other newer reservoirs. **read more about the OCA: [https://www.nyhistory.org/seneca/croton.html](https://www.nyhistory.org/seneca/croton.html)** **GETTING THERE:** We'll meet at Grand Central to take the 8:56AM Metro-North to CROTON HARMON. **AGENDA**: Once we arrive in CROTON HARMON at 9:45AM, we'll proceed over city streets to make our way on to the OCA trail, making our way NORTH to the very scenic New Croton Dam where we will have our lunch break. After lunch, we'll continue on heading SOUTH to eventually reach OSSINING where our day will end. **POST-HIKE**, for those interested, we'll have eats and drinks at the Karma Lounge located right on the OCA trail in Ossining where they serve **AMAZING CEVICHE!!!** **AT THE END OF THE DAY, f**or return trip, we'll leave from **OSSINING** station where there are at least 2 trains (local and express) leaving Ossining to NYC every hour. **HIKE INTENSITY:** This will be an EASY BREEZY hike and walk through packed-dirt paths running through a forest, while some parts are asphalt and concrete streets and sidewalks. **NOTE: there is one small - about 200-feet descent - from the OCA trail onto paved road en route to the New Croton Dam.** **TOTAL MILEAGE: About 9 MILES** **DURATION**: This is an all-day event. **PACE**: **We go at LEISURELY PACE AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND.** We will have stops for water breaks, lunch break, take time to hug some trees along the way, taking time to smell and savor the sight and sounds of nature. **NO FAST HIKERS!!!** **THE IMPORTANT STUFF:** * Dress in non-cotton layers. * Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking - * Bring at least 3 liters of liquid to stay hydrated. * Bring lunch and snacks for yourself. * Bring a sense of adventure and a positive attitude. Price Goes Up As Event Date Approaches. Welcome to *Bingo Speed Dating*... At this event you will be going on a series of about 7 to 12 mini dates with each date lasting about 5 minutes each. Women stay seated and the men rotate from table to table until they meet each woman. At the start of the event you'll be given a Bingo sheet. During your speed dating rounds you'll have to get as many Bingo squares as possible checked off. The winners get prizes! To check off a square, you’ll need to find someone who matches it.. For example: \-\-\-\> Find someone who has more than 2 pets \-\-\-\> Find someone who has seen every Harry Potter movie \-\-\-\> Find someone who has traveled to more than 2 countries this year So on your speed date you might ask the person questions like, "Do you have more than 2 pets?" or "Have you traveled to more than 2 countries this year?" Oh, and throughout the event the host will occasionally be calling off Bingo numbers (ie. B6, N32, etc.) If you complete a row, column, or diagonal… You shout: “BINGO!” 🎉 Once someone wins Bingo, we keep playing until someone else wins (We often have multiple winners so multiple prizes will be give out!) It’s interactive. It’s engaging. It’s way more fun than a dating app! Best of all? You get genuine connection, real conversation, and a safe, low-pressure way to see if there’s a spark! You will also get a match card and at the end of each mini-date you'll indicate whether or not you'd like to see the person again. At the end of the evening you will hand your match card in to the event host. If you both select each other, we will send you each others' email address within 48 hours so you can set up a future date! Within 48 hrs, you'll receive an email with the first name and email of your mutual matches. We do not give out names or contact info unless there is a mutual match. Our Speed Dating events tend to attract quality, single professionals who are done with the dating games and ready to meet that special someone. Most people know within a few minutes if they would like to see someone again. **This Event Beats The Endless Swiping On Dating Apps!** Let’s be honest — we’re all exhausted from the endless swiping on dating apps and wondering if someone actually looks like their profile picture. At this event you skip the guesswork and meet real people face-to-face before deciding if you’d like to take things further! *\* Check in starts 15 minutes before event start time so if possible please arrive a bit early.* *\* QUICK NOTE: MOST PEOPLE COME BY THEMSELF SO DON'T WORRY IF YOU'RE COMING ON ALONE. 90% OF PEOPLE WILL BE COMING BY THEMSELF. YOU'LL MEET AND GET TO KNOW PEOPLE QUICKLY! \** ***WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE EVENT...*** For tickets and information: [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1998697857094](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1998697857094) \*\* SEE MORE UPCOMING NYC AREA EVENTS AT [WWW.FRIENDZYEVENTS.COM](http://www.friendzyevents.com/)

Gotham Go Group - Tuesdays at the Hungarian

Gotham Go Group - Tuesdays at the Hungarian

Tue, Sep 22, 9:00 PM
From Gotham Go Group
4.8

Every Tuesday evening from 5 - closing. All are welcome, from beginners to pros. We usually have 8-15 players show up. This is a casual coffee house environment so don't expect a Go tournament kind of silence, but rather a din of conversation that is probably the vanguard of intellectual New York. Absolutely free, it costs nothing to play, and there is nothing to join. But PLEASE do get a drink, dessert or both to support the good folks at the Hungarian Pastry Shop who so graciously allow us to use their storied and humble space. We have some boards and stones, but it never hurts to bring your own.
