We will meet at 10.45 am outside at Norbiton Railway Station Platform 1 At 11 am we will go for our hot drink, after our hot drink we will make our way to Ham Gate Richmond Park {as above photo shows. Our walk will then take via Ham Common, Ham House & The River Thames to Teddington Lock, where we will stop for a loo break and drink at The Anglers Arms. If you're looking for sensational headlines - my group is defo not for you! But seriously - do you look up and marvel with insatiable curiosity at both the beauty and the wonder of the **universe?** How it began, our place in it, how life evolved and where else in the cosmos other non-microbial life might live (every star you see has exoplanets orbiting (some are rocky Earth like planets like ours with atmospheres) so u have to be naively delusional to believe we are alone in the universe)? And no I didn't make it up - unless you've been in hibernation or have zero idea about Humanity's greatest endeavours - you'll know **NASA** really have found the best evidence to date of **ancient life on Mars** following further scientific verification of the biological signatures of current microbe life discovered on Venus a few years ago. So we'll defo take a look at the red planet as well the majestic rings of **Saturn and it's** potential life harbouring moon, , the international space station, Tau Ceti star with **2 Earth like planets** orbiting in the habitable zone, remnants of **supernova** witnessed by our early ancestors plus a range of other fascinating celestial wonderments (comets, star systems, **galaxies**) over drinks and engaging chats and banter this Aug fully hosted by me - a passionate amateur astronomer and former global Reuters journalist covering cutting edge big picture science related stories. COUNTRYSIDE £5 WALK: HENLEY, THAMES, WOODS 🌳🌲🌿 and MEDIEVAL VILLAGES

STUNNING COUNTRYSIDE WALK (approx. 7 Mile). STRENGTHEN NEW FRIENDSHIPS IN A PUB SOCIAL AFTER THE WALK. Get out of London for a day in the countryside in the company of great friends! Today we will visit Henley on Thames, the beautiful market town set on the Thames in the midst of the stunning Oxfordshire Chiltern Hills. Henley is the home of the famous Henley Regatta and Henley Festival. From there we will embark upon a walk through scenic rural Oxfordshire. We walk, along the Thames Path from Henley, to Hambleden Lock Island and then on to the pretty village of Aston after which, we will proceed to the medieval village of Remenham with its historic church dating back to norman times. This is a very scenic walk, outward along the Thames, through woods and back again across open countryside, with many places of interest en route. This day out will also be a great opportunity to socialise and make new friends. We will finish the walk back in Henley on Thames, close to a large pub where the socialising can continue. We start the event at Henley Station at 2.30pm. Trains are available from Paddington Station in Central London. Journey time is approximately 1 hour and 10 mins with up to 2 changes (usually at Slough and/or Twyford). Aim to arrive at Paddington at about 12.30pm (there will not be a host at Paddington) if you want to take advantage of group travel discounts (I/3 off), and also allow time to purchase tickets etc. You can organise to meet others for group tickets (minimum 3 people) in the comments section below. Trains back from Henley to London are available at half hourly intervals. Look for Ken with the Ken's Events/Meetup Flag, inside Paddington station and outside Henley Station. RISKS: In these walks we use; pavements, cross busy roads, public parkland, towpaths, other public paths, rights of way, bridlepaths, country lanes and other recognised paths and tracks through woodland, bush and countryside. Please only wear good sturdy shoes, preferably walking boots and take care as surfaces may be uneven, tree roots may protrude, there may be low overhanging branches and some paths are also used by joggers and cyclists and sometimes cars (country lanes) If you require insurance for these walks then you must arrange this yourself. Unfortunately no dogs and small children are permitted on this countryside walk as we will encounter farm animals during this walk. Please dress appropriately for weather conditions, and always carry a bottle of water. There are no convenient exit points during this walk, so you should only come on this walk if you are fit, and are prepared for the full 7 miles. Please note that there is a £5 meetup organisers contribution for this countryside walk for guests and those members who do not yet hold the Ken's Event Card. Hut to Hut in the Tatra Mountains

***Update (as of July 2025).*** The revised dates are based on utilising the Wizzair flights from Luton to Poprad, departing at 05:05 and arriving at 08:35. From here, the transfer to the planned start point is 60 mins. The hike to the first hut is approximately six hours, 13 km, and 1,400 m of elevation. Should we experience a delay in transit, an alternative route is available, which takes four hours and has a shorter transfer time. We will return on Ryanair to Luton. A full itinerary will be available on www.aaahiking.co.uk soon, detailing the distances, elevation and makeup of each day. **HIGHLIGHTS** * Enjoy five nights hiking between huts in the beautiful Tatra Mountains * One night in Zakopane at the end. * Breakfast & Dinner are included at most huts. * Experience the simplicity of hut-to-hut hiking and the stunning vistas it can provide. * Experienced Hike Leaders will be on hand to guide you throughout. * A mix of challenging days with notable elevation gain and one relaxing day hike * Summit some impressive mountains. * Finish in Zakopane Enjoy the joys of this hut-to-hut mountain experience and relax in various styles of huts that offer local cuisine. The trip will commence at Poprad airport and consist of six nights' accommodation, most of which will be in mountain huts that vary in standard, including sleeping accommodations and catering facilities. **What to Expect** Hiking will vary from moderate trails, energetic sections, Challenging portions, and **one or two very technical areas** involving chains and ladders. It may feel like a via ferrata, but it's not. **A head for heights is essential.** Please review the sections related to food and accommodation below. Each day's hiking distance is anticipated to vary from 6 to 8 hours, covering a distance of 11 to 20 km, with an elevation gain of 800m to 1,500 m. The third day will be a short day's hike due to the nature and location of the huts. However, on this day, alternative hiking options will be offered.
