The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Redundancy: a "mostly harmless" survival manual

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Redundancy: a "mostly harmless" survival manual

Thu, Jun 11, 8:00 AM
From Melbourne Design Thinking Meetup
4.8

🛸🛸 **The Hitchhiker's guide to redundancy: a 'mostly harmless' manual for surviving the professional void** 🛸🛸 What do you do when your career is unexpectedly demolished to make way for a corporate bypass? Too many professionals treat redundancy like the end of the universe, spiralling into the bureaucratic nebula of unemployment without a map. This session chronicles a six-month odyssey through the unknown, transforming a vulnerable period of professional upheaval into a practical, comedic survival guide. **What you’ll hear:** ✨ **How not to panic:** How to steady your ship when the corporate ground disappears beneath you ✨ **What to pack:** Cultivating the core resilience and mindsets needed to navigate sudden career transitions ✨ **Deploying your networking Babel Fish:** Translating your experience into a language the market actually understands ✨ **Navigating the bureaucratic nebula:** Managing the identity shift, the job search logistics, and the administrative void without losing your sanity ✨ **Embarking on your next chapter:** Turning an unexpected full stop into a launching pad for a career that actually fits your trajectory As long as you're packing resilience to brace the knocks (and your sense of humour), you’ll never truly be lost in space. A vulnerable, funny, and no-BS roadmap to surviving the void and finding your way back to solid ground. **👍🏼 The Speaker** ✨ **Alex Clarke** is a Product and UX designer with over 8 years of experience, who after spending years building a successful professional track record, found himself facing the ultimate corporate plot twist: sudden redundancy. Alex’s story is a highly common and relevant reality for many professionals today, as organisations face mounting economic pressures to cut costs and restructure. Alex speaks candidly, sharing raw, hilarious and deeply practical truths about what it takes to pivot after a setback. By turning his own unexpected transition into a survival guide for the current job market, Alex proves that losing a job doesn't mean losing your direction. Alex’s story has a happy ending too- as he’s happily found a new job as an Incubation Designer for Coles. Down, down, prices are down. Please. 🙏 📌 **The details:** * **Date:** 6 pm, 11 June * **Host:** Melbourne Design Thinking Meetup * **Special Guests:** Alex Clarke * **Refreshments included:** Pizza and fizz!

Winter Vision-Boarding: The Power of Rest

Winter Vision-Boarding: The Power of Rest

Sat, Jun 20, 12:00 AM
From Girls Who Boss - Melbourne
4.8

This workshop is centred around a simple but often overlooked idea: life moves in seasons and growth does not come from constant output alone. Many of us have been taught to stay in motion, to keep pushing, producing, and progressing. But rest, pause, and recalibration are not setbacks. They are essential for expansion, clarity, and becoming who you are meant to be. When we ignore that, we do not move faster. We move out of sync with ourselves. Instead of focusing only on what you want to achieve, this session invites you to explore what your next season actually looks like. The pace, energy, and priorities that feel aligned for you right now. Together, we will move through guided prompts and facilitated discussion to reflect on where you may be forcing, overextending, or holding onto things that no longer fit. From there, you will bring those insights into form through a hands-on, artistic vision boarding session that is intuitive, tactile, and creatively freeing. This is a gentle but grounding space for thoughtful conversation, creative expression, and shared insight with like-minded women who are also learning to move in rhythm with themselves. No artistic experience needed! Just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to reflect. We'll have the essentials for vision-boarding (scissors, magazine cutouts and paper), but encourage you to bring your own materials as well (think anything extra sparkly and fun). **What to expect** * Guided prompts to explore your current season, your natural rhythm, and what feels aligned for your next chapter * Facilitated group discussion (with space to listen or share) * Physical, creative vision-boarding * A calm, supportive environment to reset and realign **Agenda** *10:00am* — Mingling & settling in *10:30am* — Facilitated group discussion with reflective prompts *11:00am* — Vision boarding (creative session) *12:15pm* — Sharing, reflections & wrap-up Leave with clarity, a sense of alignment, and a visual reminder of the season you are stepping into. **About your facilitator** This event will be facilitated by Nadi Pax (@findingnadi). Nadi is a writer, facilitator, and creator focused on identity, self-trust, and emotional safety. Her work explores how identity is shaped through survival, people-pleasing, and self-abandonment and how it can be consciously rebuilt through awareness, embodiment, and choice. Drawing from lived experience, psychology-informed frameworks, and years of self-inquiry, Nadi creates spaces that feel both grounding and expansive, where women can return to themselves and move forward with clarity.
