DocHouse: Steal This Story, Please! – Bloomsbury matinee

We're seeing Steal This Story, Please! at Curzon Bloomsbury, the 2:20 screening, part of their DocHouse documentary strand — it starts on time, no adverts. It runs 1h 42m — a portrait of Amy Goodman, the Democracy Now! journalist who's spent thirty years reporting from places most newsrooms won't go, made by Oscar-nominated filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin. A documentary about journalism under pressure should give us plenty to talk about afterwards.

"Sherman's March" (1986) & Drinks

Hey, let's meet and watch the classic 1986 documentary "Sherman's March" at the Dochouse in Curzon Bloomsbury, in September. This cult classic documentary won the Grand Jury Prize at the 1987 Sundance Film Festival, and was later selected to be added to the United States' National Film Registry, for preservation for its cultural, historical and aesthetic value. Doc starts at 3pm. There is also a Dochouse Documentary Meetup of this doc scheduled two weeks later, on Sunday 27th September too. "The Watergate Caper" (2026) & Drinks

Let's meet and watch the new archival documentary, "The Watergate Caper: Richard Nixon and the Death of the American Dream" at the Dochouse in Curzon Bloomsbury, a documentary narrated by Spinal Tap's Harry Shearer, which traces the rise and fall of United States of America 37th president Richard Nixon (1969 - 1974), particularly through the infamous Watergate scandal of the early 1970s. The People's Emergency Briefing - Community screening

A community screening of [The People's Emergency Briefing](https://nebriefing.org/), the 50-minute film based on the [November 2025 Westminster briefing](https://www.nebriefing.org/the-event) where ten leading UK experts set out the implications of climate and nature breakdown for health, food systems, national security and the economy. **Join us at the Dulwich Picture Gallery for the 'Portrait of a City: A Century of American Photography' exhibition.** Step into a century of American city life through photographs that capture the people who built, inhabited, and transformed urban spaces into living, breathing communities. The exhibition explores one hundred years of American urban life through the people who lived, worked, and moved through its streets. Featuring works by 34 influential photographers from 1907 to 2012, the exhibition traces how photography evolved alongside the modern city, capturing individuals and communities shaped by and shaping their environments. Set in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco, the photographs reveal cities as dynamic stages for social change. From mass immigration and industrial growth to moments of counterculture and protest, photographers used urban spaces to examine identity, labour, and belonging. **LoMAZ is going to the cinema! Come join us in the Nickel Cinema for Dracula in Istanbul, the very first film adaptation where Dracula had fangs!** Azmi is a lawyer from Istanbul. Drakula of Romania has assumed a new title. Azmi travels to Romania for legal matters. He is warned of Drakula, but Azmi is a strong believer in goodness. The film is set in 1953, and promises to be great fun - apparently it also introduced the image of Dracula scaling the castle walls, and in this version, Mina is a showgirl! Film Club: Choice

This year’s films all revolve around the theme of “**choice**” – plenty of opportunity for philosophical exploration! Details of specific films will be revealed closer to the time of each event. PFA Film Club hosts free screenings of thought-provoking films, followed by a discussion about the raised philosophical issues, for general public. In 2026 meetings are held every third WEDNESDAY of the month at the Cafe of St. Hilda's East Community Centre, 18 Club Row, London E2 7EY. The nearest station is **Shoreditch High Street** on the Overground. The screening starts at 6:30 pm (or at 6pm for longer films) and we need to vacate the building by 9:00pm.
