2nd Saturday "Not quite a book club" in the Richmond District

2nd Saturday "Not quite a book club" in the Richmond District

From The San Francisco "not quite a book club" Book Club

Show up having read a book\* you want to talk about. Get a beverage and/or food inside the cafe. We will probably meet outside in Bazaar Cafe's back garden.\*\* (The garden is accessible through an alley. There is a door to the alley next to the register inside. You can also go directly to the back garden from the street via the alley entrance on the right side of the right Cafe window.) Once you've spotted the group, we will introduce ourselves and have a brief period of chit chat. Then we will go around our group each talking about the (different!) books we read. Afterwards, you are welcome to stick around and chat. If you have a physical book you are done reading and want to offer other folks in the group, you are welcome to do that, but there is absolutely no obligation to do so. \*Any book! Could be a graphic novel, or non-fiction, or fiction, or a mystery or a romance novel or SciFi or Fantasy! \*\*If it is raining or a really bad air day from wildfires, it may be too crowded inside Bazaar Cafe to find a table, although it was raining during a few meetings early last year and the Bazaar cafe folks helped me stake out a table. In the event of rain and no space inside, I will probably move the event a few blocks away to Ilana Coffee or Royal Ground Coffee on Clement. I will message the group if we meet inside or if the location moves to another coffee shop.

Book Club: "Verity" by Colleen Hoover

Book Club: "Verity" by Colleen Hoover

Fri, Jun 26, 1:30 AM
From Burlingame & San Mateo 20's-30's-40's
4.9

"Verity" is being adapted into a movie starring Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Josh Hartnett - let's read and discuss the book by Colleen Hoover before the movie comes out! There are currently several copies available at the library so it should be easy to get. The meeting location is TBD, but will be in the Burlingame/San Mateo area. We'll decide after the May meeting! Everyone will be waitlisted initially. Priority will be given to previous attendees of the book club and regular members of the group. For details on attendance & waitlist, please see the "About us" description for the group. **Book Summary - "Verity" by Colleen Hoover** Publication Year: 2018 Page Count: 336 Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died. Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

Hangout + Silent Writing

Hangout + Silent Writing

Sun, Jun 21, 8:00 PM
From Genre + Fiction Writers of San Francisco

Hangout + Silent Writing is the backbone of the group. This is where both build a community of writers and also take time to connect with our writing. **At 1pm:** People will start gathering in the coffee shop. This is an opportunity to meet other writers, introduce yourselves, and just chat it up! Discuss your writing or your favorite book or why your bus ride was extra interesting today. (What else inspires our writing than the stories we witness?) **At 1:30pm:** We will begin an hour of silent work. This is when we pull out laptops or notebooks or whatever and begin working. Whether you're working on a novel or a screenplay or a piece of flash fiction, this is your chance to dedicate one solid hour to just engaging with it. Before the hour starts, I will call everyone's attention and do a round of check-ins where we share our intentions for the hour. **At 2:30pm:** The hour of silent work is over! I will call everyone's attention again and we will check-out by sharing how the hour went for us. After check-out, people may choose to continue working away. If you're really in the groove, I encourage this! Otherwise, people may go back to chatting and discussing their writing, etc. You may also decide to head out if you have other Sunday activities to get to. **Location:** We will be meeting at the Wave Art Collective in Lower Haight. They have both indoor and outdoor seating so plan accordingly. On Sundays, they graciously open up their space to the community. They run a small coffee shop and invite pop-up food vendors. I can guarantee there will always be coffee, but I cannot guarantee what food will be there. Everyone is encouraged to purchase what they can to help support the Wave Art Collective!
