Labour Day Loop: Green Sq & Airport

**Start and Finish place:** Stanmore Reserve, to the east of Stanmore Library **Start Time:** 8.15am for an 8.30am departure **Finish Time:** around 12.30pm. **Cycling fitness level:** Very Easy/**EASY**/Medium/Hard/Very Hard **Distance [Elevation]/ Speed:** 25km [+175m] / Moving speed averaging 12-15kph **What You Need:** Bicycle in good working order, helmet & bike lock, water & sunscreen, spare tube, Opal Card in case you need to bail out early. Chill out on Labour Day with an easy and diverse ride that will explore a couple of very new pieces of the developing Sydney cycling network. We'll experience the brand new Ngamuru Avenue connection from Alexandria to Green Square where we'll check out some new features of this rapidly changing development. Then onto Rosebery where we'll ride Sydney's first "Quietway". We will return via the spectacular airport cycle link, the Cooks River and the GreenWay. There will of course be a coffee stop in between. The ride will be gently paced and is designed to suit less experienced riders or anyone looking for a relaxed exploration by bike. The route will be mostly on separated cycleways / shared paths, or use quiet back streets. The ride aims to -show riders some safe and pleasant ways of getting around in the inner suburbs of Sydney. -provide riders with a friendly and welcoming environment. ⚠️ FOR YOUR SAFETY & ENJOYMENT, PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BELOW FULLY BEFORE YOU CLICK ‘Attend’! ******************************************** 🗓 DATE: Saturday, 10 October 2026. ⏰ MEETING TIME: 10.40am. 🚊 MEETING POINT: Blackheath station (start & finish), Great Western Hwy entry/exit. 🌍 Please use Google maps for exact location, not Meetup maps! ******************************************** 🥾 DISTANCE: 16km return. 🥾 GRADE: Moderate on a steady pace, not snail pace! 💪🏽 Reasonable fitness recommended due to uneven rocky surfaces, ups and downs hills, lots and lots of steep stairs, creek crossings, rock scramblings and a bit of bush bashing at few overgrown sections. 💪🏽 Tracks expected to be wet, muddy and slippery in parts. 📸 WHAT TO EXPECT: 🚶‍♂️Upon arrival at Blackheath station, we will proceed immediately on a local roads via Popes Glen and Govetts Leap with amazing views of the waterfalls and Grose Valley in Blue Mountains NP. ℹ️ Pulpit Rock Reserve in Blackheath has now reopened following major restoration works, including improved access, picnic facilities, accessible amenities and upgraded walking tracks. https://www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/media-centre/pulpit-rock-reopens-after-major-upgrade 🚶‍♀️From the platforms that remain, the view is the one that made Pulpit Rock a favourite. So don’t miss out! ⛰️ 🍂 ⚠️ FOR YOUR SAFETY & ENJOYMENT, PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BELOW FULLY BEFORE YOU CLICK ‘Attend’! 🗓 DATE: Sunday, 4 October 2026. ⏰ MEETING TIME: 10.40am - late start! 🚆 MEETING POINT: (start & finish) Blackheath station at the carpark, Station Street entry/exit. 🥾 DISTANCE: 🚶12 km return from/to Hanging Rock Parking Area to/from Hanging Rock Lookout. 🚶‍♂️OPTIONAL - short walk about 1 km return from/to the carpark to Anvil Rock Lookout and Wind Eroded Cave. 🚗 NOTE - a car is required to reach these places. Long way to walk to all of them from the station! 🥾 GRADE: Moderate on a relaxing pace, not snail pace! 💪🏽 Reasonable fitness recommended due to uneven rocky surfaces, ups and downs hills, stair climbs and a bit of rock scramblings. 💪🏽 Tracks expected to be wet, muddy and slippery at few sections. 📸 WHAT TO EXPECT: 🚆8.24am - train departs Central, Platform 6. Arriving at Blackheath station at 10.39am. 🚗 10.40am - meet at Blackheath station carpark, Station Street entry/exit. ℹ️ Meet and greet and short briefing, car pooling arrangement etc. 🅿️ 11am - meet in front of the gate at Hanging Rock Parking Area, Ridgewell Road (refer photo no. 3 - Burramoko Fire Trail) about 1.5km or 5 minutes drive from Blackheath station. 🚶‍♂️We will begin our adventure to Hanging Rock, about 12km return from/to the parking area. 🚶‍♂️The walk is fairly Easy/Moderate mainly on a management trails with a fantastic gorge views along Burramoko Ridge (Hanging Rock) trails, in the Grose Wilderness of Blue Mountains National Park. 🤳 This walk is a relaxing day out on a spectacular Baltzer Lookout, with amazing views over the valleys and plenty of photo opportunities. 🧺 We will have BYO lunch at the Hanging Rock whilst soaking up the views. 🥪🧃 🧗🏻‍♂️ If you wish to walk to the end of Hanging Rock, please be aware that you will need to leap over an 80cm gap that plummets down over 20m that separates Hanging Rock from the main cliff! 📝 OPTIONAL - Anvil Rock Lookout and Wind Eroded Cave. 🚗 About 9km (one way) or 15 minutes drive from Hanging Rock Parking Area and Blackheath station to Anvil Rock Lookout and Wind Eroded Cave. 🤳 We will spend time for photos and selfies at both places (about 200 metres from each other from the carpark) with awesome views before heading home via Blackheath station. ⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ⚠️ 📝 TERMS & DISCLAIMER: ℹ️ Attending this event is voluntarily at your own risk.
