Intermediate Spanish Classes (In-Person)

**In this class, we will explore the Spanish language through 8 modules. We will be speaking from Day 1, and covering concepts which assume you have a basic understanding.** **The goal is that by the end of the series, you should be able to engage in simple and structured conversations. This is useful for dates, business trips and getting around a Spanish-speaking country.** **Weekly homework is required and active participation is also required of all participants.** **Note that these classes are not free. Please consider attending an information session on August 19th or August 26th to learn more about the structure and how you can be part of this learning community.** Classes will be held in-person at Mississauga Valley Community Centre from 6:30pm to 7:30pm weekly.

ALGONQUIN-BONNECHERE LAKE SAT SEP 5 - MON SEP 7 LABOUR DAY, CANOE TRIP 6/26

On one of the hottest long weekends of the summer we have a place reserved on one of the best lakes in Algonquin Park. Bonnechere Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Algonquin Park. Deep, clear, quiet, water, provides excellent swimming for people, Lake Trout and Speckled Trout. There are only 6 well spaced private, campsites, with steel grates, fire pits and thunder boxes. We will meet at Algonquin Park, Canoe Lake, Permit Office, at 11:00 AM Sat., to pay for permits, and then drive across the road to Smoke Lake, Access Point 6, to park our cars. Permit Fees: $12.43 per person per night, X 2 nights, = $24.86 + $14.13 per car X 2 nights = $28.26. Paddle distance: 17 km. 3 portages, total 1 km. The portage called, "The Devil's Staircase", is a broad, busy trail, 590 m. long, that climbs 55 m. vertical in the first 400 m. and then drops sharply 10 m. to Big Porcupine Lake, which is 44 m. elevation higher than Ragged Lake. This trip is a good workout for experienced paddlers. Algonquin Park regulations limit us to 9 people at our campsite. Canoe Rentals: The Portage Outpost, will deliver canoes to Smoke Lake. Forks of the Credit Summertime Trek

**Please note the only way to register for this adventure is on [our website.](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/fforks-of-the-credit)** **Ten kilometers, one river, and about 300 metres of elevation gain packed into a single Caledon loop.** We start near Kettle Lake, a small glacial pond that gives this section of the park its name, and follow the Meadow Trail as it dips down toward the water before climbing back out through mixed forest. From there we pick up the Bruce Trail along an open ridge, where the ground flattens out and the Credit River valley opens up below. The second half of the loop is where the park earns its name. We drop down toward the ruins of a former hydro power station, its concrete foundations still standing next to the river, before a short detour to the viewing platform for Cataract Falls. It is not a thundering waterfall, but the setting, tucked into the escarpment with the old ruins for company, is worth the stop. Canoe trip to Algonquin Provincial Park

This is a two-night trip. We will car-camp the first night, and paddle into the interior for the second night. There are 2 medium length portages. Camp sites and canoes will be reserved for us. Food will be provided and carpooling arranged. We will be asking for a $30 deposit via paypal or bank email transfer to keep your spot since I need to reserve the sites and canoes ahead of time. I will send out a note with further information to those who sign up. See paypal and bank email transfer info under "COSTS" below. RSVP REQUIREMENTS RSVP "Going" if you are sure you can attend, are able to meet the difficulty requirement, bring what is needed and have reviewed the costs associated with this event. EVENT DETAILS Difficulty: Easy to Moderate - You are able to paddle 5 hours per day and are reasonably fit. Length: Friday night to Sunday night Cars should leave around 5 Friday night. Leaving Saturday morning is not possible. What to Bring: Hat, Personal water bottle, 2 or 3 dry bags or garbage bags (to use for your clothes & sleeping bag) Put the garbage bag inside to line you backpack. Put another one inside your sleeping bag case to line that. Waterproof Coat. List of Clothing : Hat, swimsuit, sweaters or sweatshirts (it will get chilly in the evenings), jeans or long pants, 1 towel, 2 pairs shoes - 1 for dry hiking and 1 for wet stuff. Wet shoes need to be secure, flip flops and loose sandals may get stuck in the mud. bowl, cup, spoon, fork, sun glasses, flashlight or strong headlamp, Toiletries: Toilet paper, sunscreen, bug spray. When you pack your stuff, make sure you leave room to carry food and cooking gear: we may split some that evenly among the backpacks. If you can pack everything in one pack, portaging will be much easier! Other camping items: Backpack, Sleeping bag (suitable for cold weather), sleeping pad or mattress GETTING THERE Drivers will be notified by the organizer where to meet and pick up passengers. Drivers will be sent complete directions as to where, when and who to meet and directions to Barrie and the Park.
