Check our previous trip on Instagram and then decide :) https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ce6Xl56jB0t/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng%3D%3D Trip Highlights * We hike 7 Rila lakes * Stay in huts on top of mountains (No network, Only Nature, Barbecue etc) * Visit A monastery on the way 📅 Friday, 25th Sep * **18:00** – Arrive at Sofia Airport * Stay in the city * Have a dinner at an authentic bulgarian restaurant (based on the arrival time) *** ### 📅 Saturday, 26th Sep – Seven Rila Lakes Hike * Early breakfast * Do groceries for 2 nights and next day ( the huts have limited food options - we need to pack food items) * Drive towards the Rila Mountains (around 2 hours) * On the visit a monastery. * Hike approximately **2 km uphill** to reach our mountain huts *(PLEASE avoid large suitcases)* * Check in, enjoy authentic Bulgarian dinner, relax around the bonfire ( based on availability), and spend the night surrounded by nature. *** ### 📅 Sunday, 27th Sep * Full-day hike to the famous **Seven Rila Lakes** * Approx. **16-20km hike (900 m elevation gain)** or cable car option for those who prefer * Explore all seven lakes and enjoy one of Bulgaria's most beautiful landscapes * Return to the huts for dinner and another peaceful mountain evening. ### 📅 Monday, 28th Sep * Start early from huts ( 6:00 AM) * Hike down where the cab will pick us up * Reach sofia airport by \~9:00 ( trip ends here) * If you want to stay back or have late flights - the cab stops at city centre too Important: * We stay in local huts in the mountains, these are real huts (we stay in the wild) and will be only one washroom(old style). If all stay in sharing dorms in these huts, if you want individual room, please let us know before. Join me next Sunday for a sightseeing hike through the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz 🌱 from Coswig, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its English-style landscape parks and historic buildings 🏛️. **Route & Pace** We will start the hike from Coswig and head straight to the park. Bring your own food and drinks. * **Remainder of the day:** We will continue our hike then have about an hour and a half of free time at the Gondola Station. You can use this time to purchase a boat tour ticket, visit the castle interiors, get coffee, or keep exploring. Everyone meets at the market square at 16:45 to take the 15-minute walk to Wörlitz Station. **Travel Connections** * **Outbound:** Take the RE3 train departing from Berlin Hbf at 08:40. *Take a day trip to Bohemian Switzerland, have lunch at the Pravcicka Gate, hike across the border into Germany, and finish the day hike at one of the country's best breweries.* Hike Distance: 13km Difficulty: Intermediate This breathtaking day hike from Berlin takes you from the misty river canyon of Hrensko in Czechia straight to the crown jewel of the Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland national parks. Moving through towering sandstone columns, pristine pine forests, and across international borders, this route combines dramatic geological wonders with a fresh, cross-border perspective. First, we visit the awe-inspiring Pravčická Brána, Europe’s largest natural sandstone arch. Here we will enjoy traditional Czech cuisine, looking over the valley below. From the Gate, the route takes advantage of the newly opened hiking path into Saxon Switzerland (Germany), through the sandstone formations and into the village of Schmilka, where we will enjoy traditional beers at a Saxon brewery, before crossing the Elbe and catching the train home. We’ll start at the Teltow Canal and follow the former border strip to the Britzer Connecting Canal, where a memorial stone commemorates one of the last victims of an escape attempt. After crossing the Britzer Zweigkanal, we reach the former Sonnenallee border crossing. The trail continues through the green corridor along the Heidekampgraben toward Treptow-Kiefholzstraße. The former border, now marked by a double row of cobblestones, runs through a densel built-up residential area to the former watchtower at Schlesischer Busch in Kreuzberg, where the hike ends. Since there’s no guarantee that there will be places to stop for refreshments along the way, please bring enough food for a picnic. **What’s Village Outdoor?** Village outdoor Events are monthly meetups for the we are village community and their friends to enjoy outdoor activities in and around Berlin. Wir starten am Teltowkanal und folgen dem ehemaligen Grenzstreifen bis zum Britzer Verbindungskanal, wo eine Stele an eines der letzten Fluchtopfer erinnert. Nach der Überquerung des Britzer Zweigkanals erreichen wir den ehemaligen Grenzübergang Sonnenallee. Weiter führt der Weg durch den Grünzug am Heidekampgraben in Richtung Treptow-Kiefholzstraße. Die ehemalige Grenze, heute durch eine doppelte Pflastersteinreihe markiert, verläuft durch ein dicht bebautes Wohngebiet bis zum ehemaligen Wachturm am Schlesischen Busch in Kreuzberg, wo die Wanderung endet. Da es nicht garantiert ist, ob es unterwegs Einkehrmöglichkeiten gibt, bringt euch bitte ausreichend Proviant für ein Picknick mit. **Was ist Village Outdoor?** Village Outdoor Events sind monatliche Treffen der we are village-Community und ihrer Freunde, um Outdoor-Aktivitäten in und um Berlin zu genießen. **Borsig! – Berlin's Locomotive King by Bike** **Time:** 12:00 - Midday **Start:** Hamburger Bahnhof – Main Entrance **Distance:** 30 km **Suggested contribution:** €5 This week we'll be following the story of **August Borsig**, one of the men who helped turn Berlin into an industrial powerhouse—and the company that became Europe's largest locomotive manufacturer. We'll cycle across Berlin following Borsig's remarkable journey from a small factory outside the old city walls, through the industrial landscape of Moabit, to the enormous works in Tegel. Along the way we'll see how the requirements of heavy industry pushed factories further and further away from the city centre, and how each move created new industrial landscapes, transport connections and workers' housing. We'll finish at the magnificent **Borsigwerke in Tegel**, beneath the famous Borsigturm. **The Tour** We will follow the story of Borsig through **three generations of factories**. We'll begin near the former Borsig works on **Chausseestraße**, where August Borsig established his factory in 1837. Just four years later, the first Borsig locomotive left the works. The company rapidly expanded, becoming one of Europe's leading locomotive manufacturers. But there was a problem: the factory was becoming trapped inside a rapidly growing city. We'll cycle north and west towards **Moabit**, where Borsig began expanding in the 1840s. Here the company established an ironworks, boiler works and machine factory beside the Spree, taking advantage of the waterway and the growing railway network. By the middle of the nineteenth century, much of Borsig's production had moved here. This gives us the opportunity to explore one of the great stories of Berlin's industrial development: **why did factories leave the city centre?** We'll look at the relationship between industry, transport, land prices, workers and the waterways that allowed heavy materials to move around the city. Finally we'll continue north to **Tegel**, where Borsig built a completely new factory from the 1890s onwards. Production began here in 1898, on a huge site designed specifically for modern industrial production. The factory even had its own harbour for bringing in raw materials. Here we'll explore the surviving **Borsigtor, factory halls and Borsigturm**, the extraordinary 65-metre tower built in 1922–24 and Berlin's first office high-rise. We'll then finish by exploring **Borsigwalde**, the workers' settlement created alongside the new factory. Borsig needed thousands of workers, but there wasn't enough housing in Tegel, so the company helped create an entirely new neighbourhood. Its surviving streets provide a fascinating glimpse into the social side of industrialisation. We'll finish with a well-earned beer together in Tegel. I am an accredited tour guide in Berlin, specialising in telling stories about the city's industrial heritage. Please read the group description in full for an explanation of the terms and liabilities. **The Cycling** This is a gentle-paced sightseeing ride rather than a sporting event. 🚲 We'll cover around **25–30 kilometres**, with frequent stops for stories, photographs and discussion. Anyone with a decent bicycle and experience cycling around Berlin should be comfortable on this route.
