Reel Rock 20 Film Tour at The Astor Theatre

Reel Rock 20 Film Tour at The Astor Theatre

Join me for a night of climbing films at one of Melbourne's most beautiful old cinemas. Reel Rock is the climbing world's big annual film night, and this one is the 20th edition — big walls, hard projects, and a very enthusiastic crowd that tends to cheer at the screen. The 2026 program lists four films: Colin Haley on a winter solo push on Cerro Torre, Michaela Kiersch chasing the 5.15 and V15 double, adaptive climbers Ben Mayforth and Mo Beck, and Olympic champion Janja Garnbret on Bibliographie. Eventbrite lists the runtime as about 2 hours 30 minutes. We'll meet outside the doors of The Astor Theatre at 6:30pm, say hello, then head in together around 6:40pm to find seats before the films start at 7:00pm. Look out for me near the entrance on Chapel Street. This is a casual social meetup so we can go along together — it isn't run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Reel Rock Film Tour, Adventure Entertainment, or The Astor Theatre. Please book your own ticket directly through the links below; an RSVP here isn't a ticket and doesn't include entry. **Who this is for** * Climbers of any level — boulderers, gym regulars, trad nerds, rope-gun wannabes * Anyone who just likes a good adventure documentary; no climbing experience needed * People who'd rather watch it with a group than on their own * Coming solo is completely fine — plenty of people do, and it's an easy one to turn up to by yourself **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/No6BF4VM1phPS94B8 * Tickets (Eventbrite): https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/reel-rock-20-film-tour-melbourne-tickets-1993928137735 * Reel Rock 20: https://www.reelrockfilmtour.com/home/au/ * 2026 program: https://www.reelrockfilmtour.com/program/2026-program/ **Timeline** * 6:30pm – Meet at the doors of The Astor Theatre and say hello * 6:40pm – Head inside and get seated * 7:00pm – Films start * 9:30pm – Films end and the meetup finishes **Tickets / cost** * You book and pay for your own ticket through the Eventbrite link above. * Ticket types and prices are set by the organiser and change over time — check Eventbrite for what's currently available. Early bird tickets are cheaper while they last. * Please book ahead. Reel Rock nights are popular and can sell out, and an RSVP here doesn't hold a seat for you. * Eventbrite lists this as a no-refunds event, so double-check the date before you buy. **Transport** * The Astor Theatre is at 1 Chapel Street, St Kilda, on the corner of Chapel Street and Dandenong Road. * Trams run along both Chapel Street and Dandenong Road, and Windsor station is a short walk away. * If you're driving, it's street parking in the surrounding streets — check the signs, and allow extra time to find a spot. **Bring** * Your ticket (on your phone is fine) * A jacket — evenings can be cool and the theatre can be too * Cash or card if you want snacks or a drink from the candy bar **Expect** * Difficulty: none, it's a cinema * Pace: relaxed — arrive, sit, watch * Vibe: friendly and a bit rowdy, in a good way * Group style: come and go as you please; we meet at the doors and sit together if seating allows **Important notes** * Please arrive by 6:30pm if you'd like to sit with the group. We'll head in at 6:40pm and can't wait around once the films start. * Seating depends on your ticket and how full the session is, so sitting together isn't guaranteed. * Times, films, and the program are set by the organiser and could change — the Reel Rock and Eventbrite pages are the source of truth. * Follow The Astor's house rules and staff instructions, and please be considerate of others during the screening. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so the numbers stay clear for everyone.

Indoor Rock Climbing (Urban Climb Blackburn ) - First-time to Advanced

Indoor Rock Climbing (Urban Climb Blackburn ) - First-time to Advanced

**Urban Climb Blackburn** Never climbed before? No worries at all! You're very welcome here! Just complete a quick safety induction when you arrive and the staff will walk you through everything you need to know to climb safely indoors. It's easy, friendly, and won't take long. The venue has plenty to enjoy, including a bouldering cave, speed wall, sauna facilities, and sparkling water to keep you going. This group is primarily focused on rope climbing, top roping and lead climbing, but if you'd prefer to stick to bouldering while you find your feet, that's absolutely fine too! Many of our members have their lead pass and gear, but there's no pressure at all. **Finding us:** If you arrive on time, look for us gathered around the couches in the bouldering area. We're a friendly bunch, so just come and say hi! Running a little late? No stress, just let the staff up the front know you're with the Climb Meetup group and they'll make an announcement. Someone will come and find you and introduce you around. A few of our regulars also wear a black shirt with the old logo, so keep an eye out for those. **A note on numbers:** The meetup runs every Monday and many regular members come along independently without RSVPing through the group, so the crowd is often bigger than it looks on the attendee list! If you're ever unsure whether people will be there or worried it might be a tiny group, feel free to drop the organisers a message beforehand and we'll put your mind at ease. **Fees:** Entry is paid directly to Urban Climb. You can find current pricing at [urbanclimb.com.au/pricing](https://urbanclimb.com.au/pricing/). If you hold a climbing membership elsewhere, it's worth checking your member benefits as you may be eligible for a discount. For venue info and the first-time waiver, visit [urbanclimb.com.au/locations/blackburn](https://urbanclimb.com.au/locations/blackburn/). **Stay connected:** We also have a facebook group [https://www.facebook.com/groups/663576119053808](https://www.facebook.com/groups/663576119053808) with a chat function; a great way to connect with members before or after a session!

Join me for *Gravity* in 3D on the giant screen at IMAX Melbourne on Sunday 11 October. It's one of those films that really belongs in a cinema this size — the kind of thing that's worth leaving the couch for. We'll meet outside the IMAX Melbourne gates at 6:15pm for a quick hello, head in together around 6:25pm to get seated, and the film starts at 6:35pm. It should wrap up around 8:15pm, and that's where the meetup finishes. This is just a casual social group going along together — it isn't run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by IMAX Melbourne. Please book your own ticket directly with them; an RSVP here is not a ticket and doesn't include entry. **Who this is for** * Anyone who enjoys big-screen cinema and doesn't want to go on their own * People who are happy with a relaxed, low-key meetup — we say hi before, watch a film, and part ways after * Coming solo? Very welcome. Most people do, and that's the whole point **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nheDYkgFXyMURvzc8 * Tickets / session info: https://web.imaxmelbourne.com.au/films/GRAVITY-3D/HO00000113 * Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JML-WzLUNmg **Timeline** * 6:15pm – Meet outside the IMAX Melbourne gates and say hello * 6:25pm – Head inside and get seated * 6:35pm – Film starts * \~8:15pm – Film ends and the meetup finishes **Tickets / cost** * Book your own ticket directly through IMAX Melbourne using the link above. * I'm in seat E20. If you'd like to sit near the group, pick a seat close to that one when you book. * Book early if you can — popular sessions can sell out, and seats near mine will go first. **Transport** * IMAX Melbourne is in Carlton, right by Melbourne Museum and Carlton Gardens. * Trams along Nicholson and Rathdowne Streets stop nearby, and Parliament Station is a walk away through the gardens. * There is paid parking under the museum if you're driving — check current rates yourself before you rely on it. **Expect** * Difficulty: none — it's a movie * Pace: relaxed, with a short catch-up before the film * Vibe: friendly and low-pressure, no need to know anyone * Group style: we sit together where seating allows, and there's no obligation to stay and chat afterwards **Important notes** * Please book and pay for your own ticket directly with IMAX Melbourne. * This meetup isn't organised by or affiliated with IMAX Melbourne — I've just arranged for a few of us to go along together. * Please arrive by 6:15pm so we can get in and seated before the film starts. If you're running late, head straight in — I'd rather you catch the film than miss the start looking for us. * Session times can change at the venue's discretion, so double-check your booking on the day. * Follow cinema rules and staff instructions, and please keep phones away once the film starts. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear.

Beginner-Friendly Golf Night at Melbourne Golf Park

Beginner-Friendly Golf Night at Melbourne Golf Park

Fri, Oct 9, 7:30 AM
From Melbourne Social
4.9

Join me for a relaxed Friday evening at the driving range at Melbourne Golf Park in Albert Park. We'll grab some bays, hit a bucket of balls under the lights, and enjoy a bit of easy company to round off the week. This is a social hit, not a lesson and definitely not a competition. If you've never picked up a club before, you're very welcome — the range has over 60 bays across two levels with Trackman screens, clubs are available to hire at reception, and the venue says there's no dress code. Come as you are. We'll meet at the reception of Melbourne Golf Park at 6:30pm, sort out bays and balls together, then head in and start hitting from about 6:45pm. We'll share the cost of the bays and balls between whoever comes along, paid at reception on the night. **Who this is for** * Complete beginners who've always been a bit curious about golf * Anyone who plays occasionally and wants a casual hit with company * Experienced golfers happy to hit a few and chat rather than work on their handicap * Coming solo? Perfect — most people do, and you'll have plenty of people to talk to **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8HjWCQHERuCT9CL99 * Melbourne Golf Park: https://www.melbournegolfpark.com.au/ * Driving range: https://www.melbournegolfpark.com.au/driving-range * Pricing: https://www.melbournegolfpark.com.au/costs#driving-range **Timeline** * 6:30pm – Meet at the reception of Melbourne Golf Park and say hi * 6:45pm – Head to the bays and start hitting * 8:30pm – Meetup ends **Tickets / cost** * There's no Meetup fee — you just cover your share of what we spend at the range. * We'll sort bays, balls and any club hire at reception when we arrive and split the cost between us. * Melbourne Golf Park currently lists evening buckets from around $23.50 for 50 balls and $31 for 100, with club hire at $10 for a driver and $5 for an iron. Prices are theirs and can change, so check the pricing link above for the latest. **Transport** * The range is at 23 Aughtie Drive, Albert Park, beside MSAC at the northern end of Albert Park Lake. * Coming by public transport, check PTV for the best tram or bus option from your side of town. **Bring** * Your own clubs if you have them — otherwise we'll hire a few at reception and split the cost * Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes * A jacket, it can get cool once the sun goes down * Water, and a card for paying your share **Expect** * Difficulty: Easy — no experience needed * Pace: Relaxed — we'll share clubs and bays, so expect a bit of taking turns and chatting between swings. * Vibe: Friendly and low-pressure, nobody is judging your swing * Group style: Sharing bays, mixing, and having a laugh **Important notes** * This is a casual social meetup arranged so we can head along together — it isn't run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Melbourne Golf Park. An RSVP here isn't a ticket and doesn't include entry or balls. * Please arrive by 6:30pm so we can sort bays together. If you're running late, come find us at the bays. * Golf clubs move fast — please stay behind the bay line, keep clear of others swinging, and follow all venue rules and staff instructions. * Take part within your own ability. You're joining at your own risk and you're responsible for your own safety and wellbeing on the day. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear.
