You were hired by Spaniard Captain de Ordaz (who's accompanied by the somewhat creepy Mother Iris) to learn about the fate of a previous expedition and recover its treasures. After getting stranded on a British controlled island, you acquired a sloop and now you're setting sail for St Martin's—with perhaps a teensy bit of piracy on the way, should the opportunity arise. Cycle round the beautiful open cast mine of Welzow

**Meet Point:** Ostbahnhof Platform 1 (RE2 front bike carriage) **Start Time:** 10:30am **Distance:** 85 km **Pace:** About 22 km per hour (fast to moderate pace) Let's explore the beautiful landscape of one of the brown coal Spreewald Tagesbau. Yes the open cast mines of the Lausitz are still in operation (and on a weekday you can see them in operation). See the link for a newly opened cycle route around this one in Wezlow. We will go to Cottbus and head out along the beautiful spree rad weg. Reaching the top of the vast mine area we will then circulate it, climbing viewing platforms, visiting the information centre, learning about the extraordinary history of coal mining in East Germany as well as their plans for a more sustainable future. === THE TOUR === On Saturday I'll drive to Liepnitzsee for a swim and a short picknick on the lake. I have a car and I wouldn't mind some company. We will depart at 09:00 (sharp) and drive to a parking space near the lake. From there it is a 10 minute walk. I have to be back in town by 15:00. Note that the place is remote. There are no facilities. You have to bring everything you need. === WHAT TO BRING === • Swimming wear, towls, etc. • Water, drinks and food • Good mood • 5 Euros for fuel and parking fees === NO-SHOW POLICY === I enforce a zero-tolerance policy on no-shows and last-minute cancellations. If you RSVP and don't show up, you will be removed from the group. If your plans change, please cancel early enough to make your seat available for someone else.

2 day hike: Witches on the Rocks - advanced hike through the Harz; 15+25 km

Let's do another **two day hike** through the Harz mountains! **Important info - please read it now:** * This is a non-commercial event. You are responsible by yourself to research and book your accommodation in the area. You are bearing the complete risk (bad weather, etc). * After signing up for this event, please immediately research accommodation and book it. When you have booked accommodation, please send me a private message containing the place where you are staying. If I do not get a message within 36 hours of signing up, I need to presume that you are not coming. I will then need to remove you from the participants to make room for other interested people. * We will stay at the village **Schierke.** At the moment, there are still a number of accomodation options, but accomodation is limited. * For transportation, having a Deutschlandticket is certainly the most recommendable and most economical option. * **This is an advanced hike. You should wear proper hiking shoes and have a certain surefootedness. On day 1, we will walk between 15 and 20 km and have to manage an elevation gain of 820 meters. On day 2, we will walk between 21 and 24 km and have to manage an elevation gain of 750 meters. Expect that you need to climb over fallen trees and rocks. At some points, you might need to use your hands to stabilize your steps.** **Itinerary** **Day 1: Saturday, June, 13th** * 07:05 Departure with HBX train from Berlin Hauptbahnhof station (stops also at Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstraße, Hauptbahnhof, Zoo, Wannsee, Potsdam) * 10:17 Arrival at Wernigerode * 10:40 Historic steam train from Wernigerode to Steinerne Renne * 10:58 Start of our hike. We will see the Renneklippen, the Steinerne Renne waterfall, the Waldgasthaus Steinerne Renne, the Ottofels, the Leistenklippe and the Eulenstieg on that day. Optionally, at the end of our hike, if we did not already reach our personal Elendstal (valley of misery), we can walk through the geographical one. * We will arrive at Schierke between 16:00 and 18:00. **Day 2: Sunday, June, 14th** * 9:30 Start of our hike at Schierke. We will walk up the Eckerlochstieg to the peak of the Brocken. At 1141 meters, this is the highest elevation in northern Germany. From there, we will descend north-wards. We will come by the small but many Ilse waterfalls. * After around 21 km, we will reach Ilsenburg, where we can refresh and have dinner. * Depending on our speed or mood, we will take the train back to Berlin at 18:30, 19:30 or 20:30. The train ride back to Berlin takes roughly 3.5 hours. **Accomodation** I cannot give any recommendations on good places to stay. Cylce & swim - Grimnitz- and Parsteiner See

========== FACTS ========== ROUTE: Althenhof > Grimnitzsee > Wolletz > Angermünde > Parsteiner See > Chorin LEVEL: Intermediate to Experienced DISTANCE: 50ish kms MEETING POINT: 08:20 - Berlin Ostkreuz ========== FACTS ========== ========= DETAILS ========= **ROUTE:** This is the start of the swimming season (at least for me). Once we arrived in Altenhof we head downhill to the Lake Grimnitzsee for a first swim. After the refreshment we head further up nprth on mixed grou before we reach Glambeck, a very scenic little village. From there it is solig ground only to Wolletz where we stop at the Kaffee Konsum for a delicious Wildboar Burger, or more. From there we have the chance to either head on solid ground alongside more boring nature of straight through the forrest on such ground. Passing through Angermünde we head further down south via Herzsprung before we reach the Parsteiner See. One of the clearest lakes I know (and my personal favourite, but psst…). After the second swim we then head around the lake and stop for a last sip of coffee (and hopefully cake) at the Hofladen Brodowin, where even Kind Charles has been. From there its just \~7km to the train station Chorin where we hop into the train which brings us back to Berlin. **SPEED:** Leisurely around 14 km/h, at least if the wind doesn't come from the front. This is like "Being able to see the details on the side of the road and enjoying the view in general… and have a chat." **DISTANCE AND TERRAIN:** This is an about 50ish km ride, with mainly mixed and soft but also some solid ground. In general: Bikes with thin tyres (Race bikes, Road bikes, Fixies), rented bikes (Uber, Swapfiets) or any special bikes (Folding bikes, BMX etc.) are not suitable! You won't have fun, trust me! And if you want to bring Kids or Animals please get in touch before! **MEETING POINT:** 08:20 - Berlin Ostkreuz, in the train RB24 on platform 14. I have a blue Villiger Trekking bike. But you can hop in at any other station if you want (and dare). **TICKET:** It is 23,60 both ways / person, so this time it does make much sense to organise a BBT. I will get one if at least one other person wants to join me! And don't forget your "[24-hour ticket bicycle VBB network](https://www.vbb.de/en/tickets/tickets-for-your-bicycle/24-hour-ticket-bicycle/)" ticket which is about 7,50 EUR. **WAY OUT:** 08:41 - dep. Berlin Ostkreuz, platform 14, taking RB24 to Eberswalde 09:27 - arr. Eberswalde, platform 2, switching trains 09:37 - dep. Eberswalde, RB63, platform 4, 09:55 - arr. Altenhof **WAY BACK:** 18:43 - dep. Chorin, RE3 19:07 - arr. Bernau, switching trains to S2 19:23 - dep. Bernau, S2 20:06 - arr. Yorckstraße (S2) **RECOMMENDATIONS:** Check the train schedule in the morning! The DB loves to stir up the plans by changing trains on short notice! If anything happens the Meeting point is the starting point of the cycling. While we'll stop somewhere for a lunch and/or coffee please always bring your snacks but especially some drinks along! And, PLEASE make sure your bike is in a proper state! Check your tyre pressure and oil the chain! Does your light work? Having a toolset is highly recommended and a spare inner tube to fix a flat tyre a big plus! While we might be able to help in some circumstances please think about what happens if we can't! Thank you! Bringing special equipment (Helmet, safety vest etc.) is NOT required but welcome if you feel more safe using it. And in case you need special medical treatment please make me aware of that upfront.
