Oscar Watch: FJORD at the Drexel Theatre!

Join us as we get together to see the Palme d’Or winner from this year’s Cannes Film Festival, FJORD! This dramatic-legal-thriller-drama is based on a true story of a Romanian-Norwegian couple facing scrutiny after moving to the wife's remote Norwegian hometown. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event: DESCRIPTION: The film is inspired by true events and follows a Romanian-Norwegian conservative couple who faced scrutiny after moving to the wife's progressive remote Norwegian hometown. The film is written/directed by Cristian Mungiu and stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value, The Worst Person in the World). BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival where it received a 12-minute standing ovation and went on to win the Palme d'Or (top prize) along with four other awards! The film is earning a stellar 93% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes where critics call it a “riveting,” “superbly well-acted” and “knotty moral dilemma” that "refuses to provide easy answers.” Others call it a quiet film with a lot to say that’s both "richly compelling” and “endlessly though-provoking!” It was selected as the Romanian entry for the Best International Feature Film (and is currently the front-runner) for next year’s Academy Awards. FANTASTIC FEATURETTE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3c27MmOyxg TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gdRZZVoinM PLAN: We’ll plan for a 4:00pm-ish showing and will meet in the theater lobby about 20 minutes before showtime. Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater. Just let them know you're with the group for admission and concession discounts ($3 sm popcorn, $3 sm soda). A longer movie and we've got big dinner/movie events the week before/after, so we'll plan to make this one a movie only event. Exact showtime and complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. Should be a good one, Dan

Shut Up & Write!™ Easton Town Center

We'll meet at The Capital One Café, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator. Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking! • What we'll do Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros. 10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 11A-11:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you! • What to bring Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible. See you at The Café on Saturday!
