FREE Intro Square Dance Party

FREE Intro Square Dance Party

Thu, Jul 30, 2:30 AM
From Oakland Area Square Dancing Meetup
4.8

Come join us for a free taste of Modern Square Dancing, on Jul 29 or Aug 19, before our new class starts on Aug 26. No experience required! There will be pizza (and other goodies)! *Lake Merritt Dance Center in Oakland* (Veterans Memorial Bldg)*.* Modern Square Dancing is a fun way to get some exercise and meet new friends. We learn the names of the basic movements and then do them on the fly to the instructions of a live caller. It's like an adult game of Simon Says with a team of 8 people all going in different directions, in time to a variety of music. You don't have to be a dancer; you just have to follow directions and walk in patterns. No experience required. No dance skill required. Come on your own or with a partner. Our friendly club members will help you through the whole process! Casual dress. Comfortable shoes with soles that aren't too grippy. No alcohol. No smoking. Hosted by Oakland's LGBTQ+ all-inclusive square dance club. More info at https://oaktown8s.org/intro.html

Fri, Aug 7, 3:00 AM
From Irish Dance - San Francisco Bay Area

It's the first Thursday of the month. What does that mean? Fast and furious Irish set dancing in San Francisco, of course! Dancing starts earlier (**8pm**) and goes longer – three solid hours of music, dancing, and fun. We have a different band performing live traditional Irish music for us each week. Check back here later to find out who this week's performers are! Typical attendance is 15-25 dancers. (Note that the RSVP count on Meetup doesn't reflect the actual number attending – these events are advertised in numerous places.) **COVID-19 Policy:** **Boosted vaccination is MANDATORY.** Additionally, if you are displaying any symptoms of illness or if you feel under the weather, we kindly ask that you please remain at home and come back another time - there will be dancing again on the following Thursday! **Cost:** $10. If you are able to contribute more, it all goes to the musicians and is greatly appreciated.
