The London Solopreneur Circle: First Gathering

The London Solopreneur Circle: First Gathering

Thu, Jun 11, 6:00 PM
From The London Solopreneur Circle

**This is the first meetup of The London Solopreneur Circle, a small peer group for people actively building independent businesses outside the traditional corporate path.** The aim is to create a thoughtful peer space for people building independent businesses to share what they are working on, what feels hard, what is moving forward, and how we can support each other. The goal is simple: Honest conversation, accountability, useful ideas, partnerships, friendship and momentum. This is a no-pitch environment. If your main goal is to sell to the room, this is not the right group. Each session will usually follow a simple format: 1\. What are you building right now? 2\. What moved forward since last time? 3\. What feels hard\, confusing or stuck? 4\. Useful opportunities\, intros\, tools or resources 5\. One concrete action each person commits to before next time Nothing formal is needed. Just bring: * a short intro to what you are building * one current challenge or question * a willingness to contribute honestly * useful ideas, contacts or resources where relevant * We meet in Central London, usually in a relaxed, informal venue where proper conversation is possible. Exact venue details will be shared before the event.

Rock the Docs: Applying music theory and band dynamics to technical writing

Rock the Docs: Applying music theory and band dynamics to technical writing

Thu, Jun 18, 5:30 PM
From Write The Docs London
4.7

The discotheque gets disco-technical, as Marco Spinello, technical writer at [Booking.com](Booking.com) shows us how music theory can be applied to documentation, using examples from both his professional and creative life. This light-hearted look at technical writing will cover: * Why Git is like a metronome * Why managing stakeholders is not unlike managing band members * Why recording an album is not unlike delivering an MVP **Rock the Docs** tells the story of a disco band that shrank from eight members to a power trio. Not unlike a company reorganisation with a built-in product pivot. Music and technical writing have more in common than meets the eye; music theory maps the territory like information architecture, a metronome enforces discipline like git, and song dynamics prevent the "wall of text" effect of very long, very dense docs. Guitar tone becomes tone of voice, equalization adjusts it per content type, and effects act as admonitions that highlight key sections. The band recording is their MVP, scoped and time-boxed, just like any good documentation deliverable. More details TBC! Please note that the agenda is approximate and subject to change. This event is kindly hosted by [Wise](https://wise.com/). **📅Agenda** **When:** Thursday, 18 June, from 6:30pm **Where:** Wise, 65 Clifton Street, London EC2A 4JE. **What:** 18:30 - 19:00 Arrival 19:00 - 19:15 Welcome & Housekeeping 19:30 - 20:00 Marco Spinello Rocks the Docs 20:00 - 20:30 Networking **📍**How to find us: Please head to Wise, 65 Clifton Street, London EC2A 4JE, from 6:30pm onwards -- one of the friendly Write The Docs London team will be checking guests in. 🌎 Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/r6zdmeDKhyAbLbaf7 📜 What3Words: ///lift.send.curiosity 📷 **Photos:** Please note that the organizers may take some photos for the WTD group.
