All levels are welcome. In this class, we will focus on figure drawing and various drawing techniques. We begin with a short discussion/demo of different approaches to drawing. There is a live model for each session. Please bring a pad up to 18×24, a 2H, HB, and 4B pencil, and an eraser. **[If you don't know what to bring we recommend the following supplies](https://amzn.to/47VCpaE)**. This uninstructed session begins with short poses for attendees to warm up. The longest poses are 20 minutes. We take a 5-minute break every 20 minutes. There are cookies and fresh water available. We listen to music while we work. Please bring your supplies (we have limited supplies to lend out). Looking forward to seeing you! PLEASE NOTE: * We can not accommodate dry pastels (for health reasons), open ink containers, or paint other than watercolor. * Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the moderator to prevent disruption to other artists. * Because of the limited space, we can not offer any refunds for the session. This course is designed for beginners! **3 Sessions - Mondays August 10, 17, and 24, 6:30-9:30pm** Learn how to draw the human figure with Gaby Nighan, a classically trained artist. Gaby will guide you through every step of a drawing, starting with gesture and proportion on the first session and finishing with shading on later sessions. Gaby will break down the complex process of figure drawing into simple, concrete steps. You will gain knowledge to help you become self-sufficient in your drawings. You will leave with a drawing you’re proud of! Live demo and individual critiques from the instructor included in each session. **Materials List:** 9 x 12” , 11 x 17 “ or 18 x 24 “ paper (I recommend Strathmore 400 series) 2H, H, and HB pencils (I recommend Staedler brand) Kneaded eraser Tombow mono eraser (this is an eraser with a fine point that helps with specificity. Working on toned paper with traditional drawing materials, we’ll study the methods of the Old Master, developing drawings through gesture, block-in, and open rendering. In each 3-hr session, we will draw from a live model, beginning with quick poses to warm up, and then gradually extend the pose length to a final 1 hour pose to finish the evening. First timers welcome. All levels of experience and skill are invited. This is an uninstructed event is for anyone who enjoys or is curious about drawing from a nude figure model. Do your own thing. The environment is laid back, yet professional, and we want everyone to enjoy themselves. No photography allowed. Bring your own beverages. Great tunes will be played, great models will be hired, and we'll make some fantastic artwork. These sessions are moderated by David Bell and Joe Scarpulla, who run Big Object animation studio. David and Joe are stop-motion animators and visual artists, and David is an instructor at Parsons and SVA. RATES 3-hr session: $20 cash / $25 venmo Please RSVP. We operate on a first come-first serve basis. WHAT TO BRING: Your drawing/painting materials (no oils), $20, BYOB. Directions: We are a few blocks from the Greenpoint station on the G and from the Greenpoint stop on the East River Ferry.
