Sunday Afternoon INSTRUCTED Figure Drawing

Instructed Figure Drawing Class - All levels are welcome. In this class, we will focus on figure drawing and various drawing techniques. Each week, our teacher begins with a short discussion and demonstration of different drawing approaches. Attendees then draw for the remainder of the session with feedback from the teacher. Portrait Drawing (Drop-in)

In these drop-in portrait drawing sessions, students will spend a Saturday learning the fundamentals of portrait drawing with direct access to a professional, classically trained artist for hands-on instruction and feedback. Katya Dennison is an award-winning, classically trained artist. She will walk through the principles of beginning a portrait, followed by basic form rendering. These sessions focus on anatomy, structure, likeness, and precision of materials — giving students the tools to create a confident drawing with visual expression.

Instructed Drawing Night at the Met

Instructed Drawing Night at the Met focuses on charcoal pencil drawing through close study of the museum’s Greek and Roman figure sculptures. Our instructor, Elizabeth Johnson, will guide students in developing technical control of charcoal pencils while working from these classical forms. After a brief demonstration, students will create charcoal drawings around the gallery with guidance from the instructor. This uninstructed session begins with short poses for attendees to warm up. The longest poses are 20 minutes. We take a 5-minute break every 20 minutes. There are cookies and fresh water available. PLEASE NOTE: * We can not accommodate dry pastels (for health reasons), open ink containers, or paint other than watercolor. * Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the moderator to prevent disruption to other artists. * Because of the limited space, we can not offer any refunds for the session.
