**Learn painting!** In this beginner's painting course, we approach painting from the ground up. In a small group, you will learn the fundamentals of painting with oils, acrylics, and pastels step by step. The focus is primarily on developing a keen sense of colour and the effects colours create. We will work using photographic references and still-life setups. In each session, you will gradually learn more about: 1. Materials * You will learn how to handle painting materials, clean your brushes, and keep your palette organized. * You will receive an introduction to acrylics, oils, and pastels. * You will understand which types of brushes are suitable for specific tasks. 2. Colours * Seeing, mixing, and rendering colours * The interaction of different colours 3. Color values ​​and contrasts * For shaping planes, volume, and edges * Expressing proximity and distance through colour 4. Composition * Image structure: guiding the eye and creating visual tension 5. Introduction to Key Techniques * Impressionism * Alla prima * Opaque layers and surfaces * Glazing * "Old Masters" Registration * Course fee: €109/month plus 7% VAT (€218 total plus 7% VAT) * Weekly Saturdays 5.9. to 31.10.2026, 10:00 to 12:30h. **A Week of Oil Painting in Berlin: Five-Day Intensive** **21–25 September 2026 \| Monday–Friday** **10:00–17:00 \| Burnt Sienna Institute of Painting\, Berlin** **Course fee: €595 \| Solidarity rate: €480** Spend five immersive days developing your painting practice through a combination of focused studio work and guided museum study. Each morning, we will work in the Burnt Sienna studio from **10:00–13:00**, exploring oil-painting techniques, colour mixing, composition, observation and the development of personal ideas. The afternoons, from **14:00–17:00**, will be spent studying artworks in Berlin’s museums through looking, discussion, drawing and visual research. These studies will then be brought back into the studio and developed into paintings. The intensive includes: * **30 hours of guided tuition and artistic development** * Daily oil-painting sessions in the studio * Guided visits to major Berlin museums and collections * Museum drawing and visual-research exercises * Support developing ideas from sketches and source material into paintings * Guidance with composition, colour, paint handling and individual artistic direction * Group discussion, feedback and individual attention * Use of professional studio facilities * **All oil-painting materials included** * A small, supportive group with space for each participant to develop their own work The course is suitable for both newer painters and artists who already have some experience and would like a concentrated period in which to deepen their practice. Teaching is adapted to each participant’s level, interests and goals. Please bring a sketchbook and your preferred dry drawing materials. Participants are also encouraged to bring photographs, drawings or other visual references they may wish to explore. This is an opportunity to step away from everyday life and spend an entire week looking, drawing, painting and exchanging ideas within an immersive studio environment in Berlin.

**In Association With the Berlin Portrait Academy and PAKD Gallery / PAKD Art Lab** * **www.berlinportraitacademy.com** * **www.pakd-gallery.com/artlab** * **Cost: 15 Euros** A regular opportunity to study the nude or portrait from life for 3 hours, every single week! We have one long pose - you can choose whether to draw several studies from different angles around the room, or take your time to do a single sustained drawing or painting in full detail. The pose is held for 20 minute intervals with five minute breaks in-between so the model to rest and stretch, and so artists can move between seats if they choose. We provide some materials such as paper, pencils & pastels for free. Canvases, brushes and acrylic paint can be purchased at the event. We hope to see you there very soon!
