Demystifying dispatch in the national electricity market workshop
Sat, Sep 12, 12:15 AMThe electricity grid is considered to be the largest and most complex machines humans have ever built. As soon as power is generated, it travels near the speed of light down transmission lines and is consumed almost instantly. Every time you flip a light switch, that delicate balance changes. To determine how power generation is split between different energy sources, an optimization algorithm must continuously weigh constraints and calculate the ideal energy mix in real time—a process repeated every 5 minutes, 24/7 in the Australian National Electricity Market. In this workshop, Dr. Jack Simpson will walk us through: * How this grid dispatch algorithm actually works * The surprising complexity and constraints involved in real-world energy markets * How these models are used to forecast future electricity infrastructure needs **What to Bring & Prerequisites** * Please bring a laptop to follow along * Basic Python knowledge will be helpful for the hands-on portion. **Media Consent** By attending this event, you consent to being photographed and recorded on video for future marketing and promotional purposes. If you have any concerns, please let the organizers know upon arrival. **Community** Join the conversation before and after the event on our Discord: [https://discord.gg/wPmp25Xnm5](https://discord.gg/wPmp25Xnm5)

Harbour After Dark
Fri, Oct 2, 8:30 AM**Harbour After Dark 🌆** **Where meaningful conversations, genuine connection, and new friendships begin.** Step into a different kind of Friday night. **🎟️ Reserve your ticket here:** https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/harbour-after-dark-tickets-1999754264838?aff=oddtdtcreator Harbour After Dark brings together professionals, business owners and people who are intentional about creating a full and meaningful life. It is for those who value genuine conversation, authentic connection and spending time with others who are also looking to build enriching relationships and a strong sense of community. In a world of Zoom calls, remote work, endless scrolling and busy schedules, many of us are craving something more human. A chance to step away from the screens. To unwind after the week. To meet new people naturally. To enjoy conversations that feel easy, genuine and energising. As life becomes busier, it is easy to realise that while we know plenty of people, we do not always have a community where we can simply show up, relax and enjoy being ourselves. Harbour After Dark was created to be that place. A place where familiar faces become friends, new conversations happen naturally and connection grows over time. Over the past few years, Harbour After Dark has grown into a well-established monthly gathering where people come to expand their social circles, reconnect with familiar faces and meet new people in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Many of our guests have been attending for years and often bring friends along, while new faces join every month, making it easy to feel welcome whether it is your first event or your tenth. Whether you come on your own or with a friend, you will be welcomed into a relaxed and friendly environment where meaningful conversations happen naturally. There is no pressure to network or impress anyone. Just an opportunity to enjoy the company of good people and finish the week surrounded by genuine connection. **Event Details** 📅 Friday 2 October 🕡 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm 📍 Pumphouse Sydney 17 Little Pier Street, Darling Harbour NSW 2000 **Dress Code** We encourage you to make an effort and dress with confidence. Think stylish, polished and relaxed rather than formal. **Food and Drinks** A selection of shared platters will be provided throughout the evening and is included in your ticket. Additional food and beverages, including cocktails, wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks, will be available to purchase from the bar. **Our Community** Harbour After Dark has never been about hosting just another social event. It was created to build a community where people feel welcome, conversations happen naturally and genuine friendships have the opportunity to grow. Kindness, respect and inclusiveness are at the heart of every event, and we ask all guests to contribute to the warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes Harbour After Dark so special. Photography and videography may take place during the evening for use across our website, social media and promotional material. By attending, you acknowledge and consent to this. If you would prefer not to appear in photos or videos, this event may not be the right fit for you. I look forward to welcoming you. **Cristina Davy**

Community of Practice 🗣️ - Human Hearted Sydney 🌻
Sun, Sep 13, 1:00 AMJoin our monthly Community of Practice (COP) where we discuss the ideas of Human Heartedness: a secular approach to life that promotes empathy and social connection based on cultivating our human social potential. Each meeting we discuss these concepts and how they can help us in practical ways to live better, happier, and more fulfilling lives. The meeting is followed by an optional lunch together nearby. This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and find your local community! ⏰ **When:** Sunday September 13th at 11:00am 📍 **Where:** Darling Square Library, Level 1 - Ideas Space 2 (see directions) 🎟️ **Cost:** Free 🧑🦱 **Who should come:** anyone looking to meet new people and build connections with like-minded Sydneysiders. We’re queer-friendly and welcome people from all ages and backgrounds :) **About Human Heartedness:** The modern world’s focus on competition and materialism makes it easy to feel isolated and overwhelmed. The collapse of traditional sources of meaning like religion and local community intensify this so that we’re often left with a lack of meaning and purpose. We can try to fill the void with money and success—or to numb it with drugs and technology— but nothing seems to work. Human heartedness reminds us that the path to living well doesn’t come from money and power, but from building on the best in our own human hearts. Our human social potential. It points to a better way: to build in-person communities that build on our innate social potential and inherent value as humans. By building good relationships and social connections, we can live a more fruitful and fulfilling life (and help others to do the same). We can move from struggling alone to flourishing together. Following the human hearted way offers a secular, inclusive, forward looking solution to the meaning crisis of our times. **About the Community of Practice (COP):** Our human hearted community of practice (COP) offers a friendly welcoming environment in which we support and encourage each other to live more human hearted lives. Our goal is to build a community that supports us all to live more meaningful and fulfilling lives. We welcome you to join us in exploring together how to live better lives.
