This week we're out of area in Richmond at one of my personal favourites. Who's up for Japanese food? With their low priced menu and perpetual happy hour specials, not to mention perfectly cooked gyoza, yakitori chicken and fried chicken, you'll love what they have to offer. The dishes are smaller, but cheap enough that you can select more than one option and roughly pay the same price as a full meal elsewhere. They also have a full menu of sake so leave the car at home if that's your thing. Why not jump on board and I'll see you there. Malaysian Banana Leaf Rice Lunch at Roti Bar

Join me for a relaxed Saturday lunch at Roti Bar on Little Collins St, one of the city's go-to spots for authentic Malaysian food. I've been keen to try their Banana Leaf Rice feast, a generous spread served the traditional way, and it feels like the perfect excuse to get a friendly group together over a great meal. The Banana Leaf Rice is Roti Bar's weekend special, available at Saturday lunch. It comes loaded with fragrant basmati rice, sambar and fish curry sauce, three vegetable sides, cucumber raita, fried bittergourd, curd chilli, rasam, mango pickles and kesari. You then choose a protein from a big selection, and your protein and any other dishes are charged separately on top. You're of course free to order other things off the menu too, and there are vegan and gluten-free options (Roti Bar says to just let the staff know your dietary needs). It's Halal certified and fully licensed. We'll meet outside Roti Bar at 10:45am, say hello, then join the queue together around 11am to be seated. From there it's all about the food and good conversation. Just a heads-up: this is a casual social meetup arranged so we can head along and eat together. It isn't run by or affiliated with Roti Bar. We're not booking a table, so we'll queue as a walk-in group and everyone pays for their own food and drinks on the day.
