OG Toluca Lake 5 mile-ish urban Halloween adventure walk!!!

Back for our 5th year !!! The Urban-ish Adventurists which includes legendary walkers Lori and Joe (legends in their own minds) collectively known as "JOLO” invite you to explore a Halloween adventure in Toluca Lake. We will be doing a 5 mile-ish walk around Toluca Lake and surrounding areas . This will be first official walk of several designed for the Halloween season . Make sure you join us for a Toluca lake or Burbank seasonal walk as they are historically best Halloween houses in the City. For the initial walk and one other we will also be doing a pre walk happy hour as a separate posting join us to socialize before we start the walk . Both events will start at the park We do our best to keep the walk in a 2 hour range, however could go longer by a mile or so and sometimes goes over time posted. Comfortable shoes, water, flashlight and a good attitude are suggested items to bring but not required. Remember it is suggested you get a minimum 10,000 steps a day. We can all achieve that healthy goal together. We help motivate each other. Come out to walk and socialize with nice friendly people and experience a good workout at the same time. Hope to see you at our next urban-ish walking adventure. We appreciate our regular walkers and always encourage new walkers to give our walk a shot. **MEETING LOCATION:** Tables/benches near the parking lot exit in front of the baseball/softball field **TOTAL DISTANCE**: We try to keep it to 5 miles but sometimes, we go over by a bit (mostly flat) **GUESTS**: Attendees are welcome to bring a guest (dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash) **LIABILITY WAIVER**: The organizer(s) is an uncompensated and untrained volunteer. By joining this event each member accepts full responsibility for knowing their limits, for all injuries, health issues, material losses, assessing all risks and for getting lost. This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competent hiking off-trail, snow travel, rock scrambling techniques, first aid, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips, most of which take place in the High Sierra, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months. WTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer. You will acquire skills in trip planning, preparation, equipment and wilderness safety to take you into the backcountry in all seasons, beyond roads and trails with new friends that share your interest in the outdoors. LUNCHTIME FIRE WORKSHOP SURVIVAL, BUSHCRAFT, SELF-RELIANCE! Primitive skills are very popular, and the ability to make fire without matches is at the top of the list. We will practice a few of the primitive methods of fire-starting methods, and you will learn some of the secrets that come from years of experience. You will get to practice the bow drill, the hand drill, flint and steel, and more. We will also go for a short walk (if time) so you can see the types of woods that are best for making fire, and the tinders that are best for getting your fire to light. And enjoyable gathering.
