**Welcome along to Books & Bevvies** — a casual book swap + drinks social in the Sydney CBD. This is *not* a book club with homework. June's film can't be named due to copyright, however, here is a description to give you a clue: Three drag queens leave Sydney in a bus called 'Priscilla', and travel across half of Australia to climb a rock, in a frock, and put on a show at a resort in the middle of the country. Along the way, they break down, paint the bus lavender, dress up a lot, perform where they shouldn't and encounter hilarity, hostility and incomprehension. Welcome to Meet the Moment Book Club, where we read books that meet the moment and make sense of it all together. Book discussion: The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leon Tolstoy

SSP Tue - Alley and Lane ways of Sydney - Maverick Marrickville

Hopefully this will be part of a series of walks to discover the lanes and alleys ways of Sydney. We’re heading to the industrial heart of Sydney’s inner west to capture the raw, unscripted soul of Marrickville. This is a photowalk about contrasts: heritage brickwork meets vibrant modern street art, and gritty manufacturing history meets a fast-evolving community. More details to come after I have had a chance to explore the possibilities.

June Meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club

Come along to our **June meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club**. World Oceans Day is 8 June. We will explore a beach location, Bronte. This is a chance to connect, spend some time in nature and journal together. I will offer some guidance to start. After we can share journal pages and ideas. **What to bring:** Bring along sketchbooks/paper and your favourite drawing materials (pens, pencils, watercolour, acrylic, anything you have). I will have extra materials on the day if you want to explore other mediums. \*\*Where:\*\* Bronte beach **Cost:** Suggested donation is $10 annual fee, $5 casual fee. (This helps cover Meetup fees). Kiss of the Spider Woman by Manuel Puig

**Meeting at the usual place, The Shakespeare Hotel (upstairs) at 200 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills on Thursday 11 June 2026 at 7.00pm, we will be discussing *Kiss of the Spider Woman* (1976) by** Manuel Puig. The novel explores the relationship between two cellmates in an Argentine prison. One has been imprisoned for 'corrupting a minor,' while the other is a Marxist revolutionary. The narrative has a unique structure, primarily consisting of the two men's dialogue and the use of (fictional) footnotes discussing the psychology of homosexuality and gender. The novel is celebrated for how it weaves together themes of political oppression and sexual liberation, suggesting that personal and political freedom are inextricably linked. The novel was faithfully adapted into the 1985 film of the same name, available on youtube. Available from local libraries. Soft copies available from the usual places. We talk about the book in a fairly focused way for about 45 mins and then the meeting formally ends. Almost everyone stays back to talk more about the book or anything else. Although the meeting starts at 7.00pm, people start to arrive up to an hour earlier for drinks and food.
