Cantoras by Carolina De Robertis

Cantoras by Carolina De Robertis

Sat, Jun 13, 1:15 AM
From Pride & Petals: Sapphic Romance Book Club

For the June 12th book club, we have chosen *Cantoras* by Carolina De Robertis: For Pride Month and our 1 year anniversary of our Sapphic Romance Book Club, we’re diving into a story that is lush, powerful, and deeply rooted in queer history. We’re reading *Cantoras*, a sweeping novel about five queer women in Uruguay who, during a time of dictatorship and repression, carve out a small piece of freedom for themselves along a remote stretch of coast. Across decades, these women build a chosen family, creating a hidden space where they can live, love, and be fully themselves, even when the outside world refuses to make room for them. Their lives intertwine through love, heartbreak, secrecy, and resilience, revealing what it means to survive and to find joy in the face of constraint. This is not a light romance; it’s a richly layered, emotional story about identity, resistance, friendship, and the quiet, radical act of queer belonging. It’s about the spaces we create to feel safe, and the people who make those spaces feel like home. Join us for an evening of thoughtful conversation, reflection, and connection as we explore this beautiful and important story together. As always, our book club is a warm and welcoming space - whether you’ve finished the book or simply want to listen and be part of the conversation. Sign up and read along with us, we’d love to have you there.
