CFI Investigations Group (CFIIG) Monthly Meeting

From The Greater L.A. Skeptics Meetup Group
4.7

Hey, stop being an armchair detective, like Mycroft Holmes, and start being more like Sherlock Holmes, by going out and investigating the paranormal world! Over-sized magnifying glasses will be provided; but deerstalker caps are recommended. The CFIIG investigates fringe science, paranormal and extraordinary claims from a rational, scientific viewpoint and disseminates factual information about such inquiries to the public. This meeting will be held in hybrid format -- in-person and on Zoom -- until further notice. We ask that all attendees be fully vaccinated. Please email Jim at jimu@cfiwest.org for the Zoom link. The group is always seeking new members, so come to the meeting and see for yourself if you'd like to join. --- For more information, call (323) 666-9797 ext. 666, or email jimu@cfiwest.org.

Oscar Wilde: Gowns in Miniature

Oscar Wilde: Gowns in Miniature

Tue, Jun 9, 11:00 PM
From Pleasure Palate
4.7

Come join me at the Clark Library (one of my happy places, LOL) for an exhibition of mini gowns created by UCLA MFA costume design students! It's an excellent opportunity to visit the Clark, which usually requires an appointment. The registration link is below. It's free of charge but requires advance registration. The Clark has one of the most comprehensive collections on Oscar Wilde in the world. From the Clark Library's announcement website: "Join us to celebrate Oscar Wilde, the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library, and the David C. Copley Center for Costume Design at an event featuring eight exquisite half-scale gowns created by UCLA MFA costume designers. Mentored by costume designer, historian, and Distinguished Professor Deborah Nadoolman Landis, PhD (Director, David C. Copley Center for Costume Design), MFA costume designers conducted research in the Oscar Wilde collection at the Clark Library and designed costumes for *The Importance of Being Earnest*, *A Woman of No Importance*, *An Ideal Husband*, and *Lady Windermere’s Fan*. Design sketches and briefs, costume history, and mood boards will be presented alongside the gowns at this gathering commemorating our collaboration." [Please register at the Clark Library website](https://www.1718.ucla.edu/events/gowns-mini/). Space is limited and I can't guarantee walk in registration will be available. Hope to see you there!

6:30 DeathWalk - up to 10K STEPS Route

6:30 DeathWalk - up to 10K STEPS Route

Tue, Jun 16, 1:30 PM
From DeathWalk

**DeathWalk** 6:30am - **up to** **10,000 Steps** \- I am a death & end\-of\-life doula\, in deathwork for the last nine years\, and I'm inviting you to walk & talk with me for a deeply discounted price from my usual fees\, in an effort to provide inexpensive death & grief support in my community\. **Who is this group for?** \- Caregivers & providers for end\-of\-life care \- People with a terminal diagnosis AND their family & friends \- Fellow doulas and/or people who are interested in entering deathwork \- People who are grieving/suffering loss \- People considering MAiD or VSED \(including family\, friends\, & professionals who will support them\) **TW**: This group will discuss death & dying and will cover sensitive topics ranging the gamut from grief, sudden loss, terminal illness, MAiD (Medical Aid in Dying), etc. **Limit 5 per walk\*.** **Details:** *You must RSVP through MeetUp app to join these walks! Absolutely no drop-ins allowed as it is unfair to other participants.* Location is 1060 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, CA., Lot 4 North (4N). Though meetup starts at Lot 4N, you can park in 3N or 5N and walk to the meetup point easily. PLEASE park in the 15 minutes prior to start time so no one is waiting - walk begins promptly at 6:30am. PLEASE wear sunscreen & appropriate footwear. PLEASE bring any items you may need such as water, sunglasses, a hat, layers, chapstick, etc. We want to be comfy & undistracted so conversation can flow! We will walk between Santa Monica & Venice, on a smooth & flat cement walkway. This walk will pass the Santa Monica Pier & there is a view of the ocean the entire walk. If you choose to complete the whole walk, the route is approximately 10,000 steps out & back if you walk the whole way, depending on your stride length. We will turn around at the 45 minute mark, regardless of how far we've walked, to keep to our schedule, so some days we will walk less, some more - depends on group pace. :) **IMPORTANT NOTE**: Anyone may turn around to leave the group at any time, as needed! No one is required to complete the whole distance if they cannot or do not want to. Additionally, this walk fronts all the parking lots between Santa Monica and Venice and any participant may be dropped off at the meetup start, but be picked up anywhere along the way from another parking lot! Lastly, if you will be leaving early, please let me know so I can make sure I speak with you first. :) **All are welcome!** Mobility aids can be accommodated (wheelchair, scooter, etc) but bear in mind this is a walking group event at an outdoor beach location & plan accordingly. [If walking is outside your capabilities but you still need doula support, you might consider the once-monthly park meetup on Saturdays instead OR a friend or family member might be able to come in your stead. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions about accommodation.] **If you join DeathWalk - you are entering into a tacit agreement: DeathWalk is a group for discussion, support, guidance, Q & A, and especially listening to each other. It is also for those who may not be ready to talk yet but need community to support loss. This group is a safe space for deep conversation and it is expected that everyone participating will exercise good listening skills, polite behavior (including staying quiet when you don't have something good to say), and discretion - these conversations are private, personal, and for us only, not intended for discussion outside the group.** \*\*\*\*\*5 person per walk limit is so that I can be attentive to every individual present & provide individual support & feedback during the time we have. Let's get our steps in & get into it. \~m
