What we’re about
Are you looking for a way to get out, make new friends, and get involved in events with a focus on creative, arts, music and cultural hobbies? If so, whether you are new to Sheffield or have been living in our lovely city for years - What's Up, Sheaf? could be the group for you!
Created in 2023, our name references the River Sheaf running through Sheffield, because rivers are ace 👌. We are a welcoming, inclusive, relaxed bunch, with most of our members (but by no means all) in their 20's and 30's. We are run in a very relaxed, organic way by a small group of members for the wider community, and always open to new input from potential event organisers and helpers. There is also a Whatsapp community that new members can join after signing up for their first event.
Our regular events focus on bringing people together around creative hobbies and activities:
- Stitch and Bitch!: Fortnightly crafts (and biscuits!) every other Wednesday.
- Book Club: Roughly every 6 weeks. Read a book, then come and talk about it with others!
- Music Jam: Fortnightly every other Monday. For musicians of all abilities to come together to jam in a relaxed, no-pressure setting (and for extra keen beans to try and organise Sheffield Community Music Ensemble events..!).
- Loose Words (New for 2026!): Fortnightly (regular day TBC after first event) for all writers whether new or more experienced to write, read, and share their work together.
- Other less regular or newer events include Board Game nights, Cinema Club, and the occasional Hikes.
We care about creating events which are as inclusive and accessible as possible. We know that some people attending an event for the first time might be anxious or have specific accessibility requirements. If you would like to attend one of our events and we can do anything to help you feel welcome and to have a great time, please do get in touch with the event organiser who will be happy to help :).
Our events are all 100% free and non-commercial. Occasionally we welcome small donations which go towards the yearly Meet Up subscription and running costs.
