What we’re about
Welcome to the Vancouver Classical literature and film Meetup! This group is for local professionals who are interested in exploring the connections between life, philosophy, psychology, humanitarianism, and wellbeing through the lens of classical literature. We will discuss a variety of plays, novels, and texts, as well as engage in social psychology discussions, reading clubs, and critical thinking. Join us to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for exploring the depths of the human experience through literature.

🎬 Dreams and Reality - Bi Gan’s Movie watch (1 of 2)
The Cinematheque, 1131 Howe Street, Vancouver, BC, CA## 🎬 Dreams and Reality - Bi Gan’s Resurrection (Group Watch + quick café chat)
Showtime (this is when we’ll be in the theater):
-------------------------Fri, Jan 16, 2026 - 7:00 PM--------------------------
Meet time: 6:40 PM in the lobby (so we’re seated before trailers)
Bi Gan makes movies that feel like you’re half-awake — like the screen is remembering something you forgot.
Resurrection is set in a future where dreaming has basically been outlawed (because dreams are “dangerous” to the system). A woman is sent to track down people who are “infected” by dream-viruses, and the deeper she goes, the more the film becomes a haunted museum of cinema itself: love stories, nightmares, old movie ghosts, and the feeling that reality is getting softer around the edges.
This is the kind of film you don’t want to watch alone and then immediately go home. It’s built for the moment right after the credits when everyone turns to each other and goes:
“Okay… what did you think that meant?”
How we’ll do it
- Meet in the lobby, go in together, watch as a group.
- After the film: optional 20–30 min café debrief nearby (best image you can’t shake + one theory you’re willing to defend).
Where
The Cinematheque (Downtown Vancouver) - 1131 Howe St.
Tickets
Buy your own ticket from The Cinematheque site (I already have mine). RSVP here so we know who to look for in the lobby.

The Cinematheque, 1131 Howe Street, Vancouver, BC, CA## 🌀🎥 Dream Consciousness - Bi Gan’s Long Day’s Journey into Night [3D] (Group Watch + after-chat)
Showtime (this is when we’ll be in the theater):
---------------------Sat, Jan 24, 2026 - 6:00 PM-------------------------
Meet time: 5:40 PM in the lobby (3D = we want time to settle in)
This is one of those films people describe the way they talk about dreams: out of order, emotional, and weirdly specific.
About the Director : Bi Gan is a visionary Chinese film director, screenwriter, and poet widely recognized as a leading figure of a new generation of Chinese-language filmmakers.
A man returns to his hometown chasing a woman who might be a memory, a ghost, or a lie he can’t stop feeding.
The movie moves like a noir that got hypnotized, voiceover, fragments, clues that don’t behave, time that won’t stay in a straight line.
And then it hits the reason you go to a screening like this: the second half is a one-hour 3D long take that feels like drifting through someone else’s subconscious. It’s not “plot” anymore, it’s cinema as a physical experience.
If you’ve never seen a film where the camera becomes a sleepwalker, this is your shot.
How we’ll do it
- Meet in the lobby, go in together, watch as a group.
- After the film: optional 20–30 min café debrief nearby (biggest “wait… what?” moment + what the 3D did to your brain).
