Sunset Pedal UP the Consolidated Canal from downtown Chandler. Ready to PEDAL at 3:30. TGIF. Come and ride.

We start in quaint, yet hoppin' Downtown Chandler, and pedal over to one of our biggest canal systems - the Consolidated Canal down the lovely Paseo Path.

The flat and easy dedicated bike path running along the canal connects 3 cities: Mesa as it winds through neighborhoods, farms and parks; Gilbert (known as the Heritage Trail) ; and Chandler (where it is known as the Paseo Trail), where Waterfowl and fish can be spotted in the canal, and fishing is permitted, tho I doubt you'd want to eat it (yuck...)
We will pedal north along the canals and get some exercise, breath some fresh air, and enjoy the sunset sky...

The real HIGHLIGHT of our ride is the end (at the end of sunset) - where we will converge at THE UNCOMMON, a super cool vintage video-game bar. Think PacMan, Foosball, Zoltar, Donkey Kong, Pong... all the great RETRO arcade games.
Cheap drinks. Tons of food. Cool vibe...

Bike the Countryside: New River Tail / Peoria and Glendale
If you haven't biked on the "west side" you'll be pleasantly surprised with how quiet, green and serene it is!

We will pedal south along the quiet New River Trail. The entire pathway is paved and flat, with all underpasses - no roads to cross!
Pedal along the green and trees, thru the farms. Quiet, and peaceful.
1 hour / about 10 miles each way = down & back total 20 miles

NOTE: There are NO bars or restaurants anywhere nearby.
BRING a SNACK AND DRINK for the social time/break we will take at the "end", before we turn around.

Arrive NO LATER than 10:15am at Rio Vista Recreation Center.
Be ready to hit the trail at 10:30am!! We leave on time.

About The New River Trail - The New River Trail is a 20-mile long paved multi-use pathway system located in Peoria, Arizona, in the northwest portion of the Phoenix Metropolitan area. It follows the route of New River as it wanders through the residential areas and old farms to the northwest of Highway 101. New River is a natural drainage way, rather than channelized, so there are more native plants and natural areas with opportunities to view wildlife.
The trail runs somewhat parallel to the 101 from W. Happy Valley Road, all the way to the Grand Canal at Bethany Home Road.

Easy long pedal - all paved bikepaths.
Down & back. 1 hour each way (10 miles), not including a 15 - 20 minute stop (cold drink/snack) in the middle. Total 20 miles.
Gentle pace of 10mph - swift, but easy.
Keep up - no gaps. No one left behind.

Chinese New Year ride. Chandler/Gilbert. I know that many of you may still be working on a Tuesday late afternoon : ( - but for those that aren't, let's celebrate with Zen, Sake, and a Chinese New Year Celebration with a final stop at the well-known Singing Panda Restaurant [pit stop optional].

3:30pm no later - Meet at the Singing Panda parking lot
Be prepared for traffic on the way there - allow extra time!
3:45pm - We pedal from downtown Chandler, along the canal all the way to Harmony Park, our Zen Pit Stop where we will make a Wish for the New Year (of the Horse) - learn about Zen balance of life, and spiritual growth - and turn around to head back to the Singing Panda Restaurant for Lucky Buddha beer and a light bite of fabulous Asian food. Optional
It will be dusk - so you must have a bike light.

All bike path, tho we do have to cross several roads (almost all with pedestrian/bike signal light). Short ride - all paved, about 9 miles each way - about 50 minutes each way.
Total pedal about 18 easy miles.

Bring your bike light (mandatory). Nice rechargeable one is only $15 on Amazon, or grab one at WalMart.
