About us

## About Take a Hike

Take a Hike is a relaxed, friendly walking group where everyone is made to feel welcome. We’re all about enjoying the outdoors, meeting new people, and exploring the beautiful landscapes of Hampshire and its surrounding counties. Alongside our regular walks, we also organise the occasional day trip and weekends away for those who want to explore a little further.
Our walks usually take place on Sundays and are aimed at people who are comfortable walking 8–10 miles (12–16 km) at a moderate pace of around 2.5–3 mph. We take a short mid‑morning break for snacks and drinks, and later pause for your picnic lunch. After the walk, we often head to a local pub or tea room for a well‑earned chat and wind‑down.
There is a small contribution of £2 per walk. Special outings or weekends away may involve additional costs.
We welcome all adults aged 18 and over. This is a non‑smoking and non‑vaping group.
To help us recognise and greet you at events, all members must upload a clear, recognisable photo of their face (no pets, no group shots, no distant images). If anonymity is important to you, this may not be the right group.
A quick note: Details such as timings, distances, pace and expected numbers are guides rather than guarantees. Plans may be adjusted on the day depending on weather, ground conditions, transport issues or anything else that crops up

## Group Guidelines & Expectations

Pace & Walking Etiquette

  • Everyone has their own natural pace, but the walk leader sets the overall speed.
  • If you walk ahead, please ensure you can still see the leader and stay on route.
  • Our typical pace is 2.5–3 mph (around 24 minutes per mile).

Safety & Responsibility

  • You take part at your own risk. The walk leader and organisers cannot accept responsibility for any loss, injury, or damage to you, your guests, your dog, or your property (including parked cars).
  • Please ensure you have suitable footwear, clothing, and your own basic first‑aid essentials.

Respect & Behaviour

  • Treat fellow members, guests, the public, the countryside, and wildlife with respect.
  • Take all litter home.
  • Harassment, bullying, unhealthy gossip, or any form of abusive behaviour will result in removal from the group.

RSVP Etiquette

  • Please keep your RSVP status up to date.
  • If you can no longer attend, cancel as soon as possible so others on the waiting list can join.
  • Repeated no‑shows or last‑minute drop‑outs may affect your ability to join future walks.

Happy walking — until we meet on the trail. Teresa and Team
