Surrey History Meetup

Lucy Broadwood and Ralph Vaughan Williams, both descendants of important entrepreneurial families who settled in the Surrey / Sussex border country in the mid 19th. century, each had significant impacts on local cultural life as well as on the national musical scene, with their involvement in the revival of folksong in the early years of the 20th. century.

TIn the summer of 1888, fourteen hundred young women and girls, walked out of an East End match factory and into the history books. Their actions continue to exert a powerful hold over the public imagination to this day, and this talk captures every element of their struggle.
Michael is an experienced speaker spanning the last thirty years with an academic and a communications background. After retirement from the international training arena, he pursued his hobby of researching historical topics that stimulated his interest. He now has twelve talks of which this is one of his favourites.
