About us
We're a group of folks 50 & over who do moderate hikes, mostly in the South Bay on Saturday Mornings and alternating Wednesdays, 6-9 miles max at a moderate pace. For this group it's more about the community, camaraderie and journey than the destination, meet new friends who want to hike, and then go out to lunch after. Sort of like going to party where you get some exercise.
Disclaimer: I'm doing this because I like hiking and meeting such wonderful people. We're all grownups at this point and you're responsible for your health and safety. Hiking and changing weather and trail conditions can be dangerous. By signing up for these events, you agree to release South Bay 50+ Social Hikers and especially me and any other organizers from any responsibility, liability, or claim in law or in equity. If you don't agree to these terms, DO NOT join this meetup event. You are responsible for yourself. Please come prepared with appropriate hiking shoes, gear, water and a sense of humor.

Wunderlich, top loop from Alice’s
Alice's Restaurant, 17288 Skyline Blvd, Woodside, CA, USLet's park near Alice's Restaurant so we won't have to drive anywhere for lunch! You can no longer safely park in the triangle in the middle of the intersection so try to grab the parking spots along the highway across the street. You can also pay for parking in the lot across the street if there is no street parking available. Carpooling might be a good choice today. We're starting a bit later today to ensure the pizza ovens will be going by the time we finish (and also because I'm still a bit jet-lagged lol!) Alice's,17288 Skyline Blvd · Woodside, CA at Sky Londa -- intersection of 84 and Skyline (35).
This 6.5 mile trek with 1060 feet of elevation gain will have us taking the Skyline Trail into the top part of Wunderlich Park, continuing across the width of the park, then looping back on the upper part of Alambique Trail. This hike is mostly shaded with lots of redwoods, and we will be treated to the occasional vista over the bay. This route has us climbing uphill in the first half & heading downhill for the second.
Restrooms are available at Alice's & there are portapotties at the gas station. One can even pick up a cup of coffe at Alice's before the hike should one be so inclined!Route we will take on Alltrails

Attendance: If you are signed up for a hike, or on the waitlist, please remove yourself to the "not going " list as soon as you become unsure about attending, so another waitlister can have adequate notice that they are going. Also, it is not okay to just show up to a hike you are not listed as "going" to.
IOPQ: Share a new word you've learned recently so we can improve both mentally and& physically on this hike (not that I'll be able to remember any of these but still ;-))
DO NOT ATTEND if you're experiencing any cold or flu symptoms, have a compromised immune system, or if you've been exposed to or tested positive for COVID-19.

You must sign up for the shift at the second harvest website and if this is your first time volunteering for Second Harvest you will also need to fill out the volunteer application. Sign up here: second harvest Make sure that you register for the 9AM-12 shift on Thursday, June 18 at the Curtner Center. Everyone registering will go directly to the waiting list. Once you confirm that you have secured a spot with second harvest, comment on the event & I will add you to the going list.
I have done this several times & it feels like a very good use of my volunteer time. Unlike other places I have volunteered at, I am usefully employed the entire time. They also play music which helps the time fly by LOL. I'm open to suggestions for lunch places after as well, otherwise we will likely end up at iJava because it is so convenient (easily walkable), they have outdoor seating, the food is pretty good & they let us pay separately.
Be sure to dress warmly as it is quite chilly inside the warehouse. I especially like to wear wool socks so my feet don't get cold on the concrete floor.
We will meet out front at 8:45 but if you come once we've gone in use the rightmost entrance. Note that if you come in more than a few minutes late you will not be allowed to participate so try to be early.
