What we’re about
This group is an online community of board gamers. We play games online on a regular basis, and are happy to teach new games and help broaden our players' horizons on what's out there. For the most part, we tend to play light-to-medium-complexity modern games - think Catan, Azul, Splendor, Sushi Go, and other modern classics (and lesser known gems). Most of us are in or near the mid-Atlantic United States, but we have regular players throughout the country and beyond. Players of any age, background, location, or taste and familiarity in games are welcome here!
Our group primarily communicates with each other using Discord. Become more familiar with Discord here: https://discord.gg/
Most of our games take place on Board Game Arena, a website that allows you to play a lot of modern (and public domain) games online. Register for it here: https://boardgamearena.com/welcome

Feel free to message an organizer if you have questions or want to get a feel for what happens here, and we hope you enjoy the games and people!

Featured Game - Art Decko
·OnlineOnlineFeatured games are our way of teaching new games and highlighting something we think our players may enjoy or take note of. We'll explain from scratch how to play the game with a detailed description and demonstrate a few turns, then break into tables to actually play it. Each week it'll be something new, but will run the spectrum of different lengths, complexities, themes, and game mechanics. So if this week's game doesn't interest you, feel free to look again next time around!
Art Decko is a game in which players buy art, then try to sell or exhibit it to earn points. Throughout most turns, you'll buy a painting or put it on display at the museum. The more a genre of art is used, the more money and points it'll be worth at the end of the game. While exhibiting art generally is worth more points, each exhibit also has specific conditions on what kind of art it considers valuable or even accepts. A successful player will have to balance out the value or paintings and whether it's better to hold onto them for more money, or sell them for more points!
Art Decko is a game for up to 4 players and should take about 45 minutes for experienced players to play. It has a complexity of 2.24 according to BoardGameGeek, making it an easy game compared to games typically featured here.

If this is your first time with this group, you should see a link to our Discord group once you've signed up for this event. You may join any time before the event begins to get to know people, but once this event starts, we'll typically join the Lobby voice chat, then move to another voice chat once we've gotten started. Note that I, as the game teacher, will share my screen to show how the game works, but all other interaction will be voice only, no video, so no need to look presentable first. The game itself will be played using Board Game Arena - please create an account on this site beforehand.3 attendees
Saturday Night Board Gaming
·OnlineOnlineCome out and enjoy some board games! Play an old favorite or something new – we're open to almost anything. Players of all skill levels are welcome! Don't worry if you don't know a lot of games, we're happy to help teach how to play.
The usual process here is that at 7:00, we'll all gather in Discord, chat with each other, and figure out what to play from there. People can drop in and out of the meetup at their leisure. We usually clear out around 10:00, but some of us may stay as late as 11 or 12. Either way, players can feel free to come and go as they want - no need to stay longer than you have the energy for or arrive precisely on time!
We use Discord to chat with each other while the games are in progress. The link to our Discord group will be provided once you've RSVPed to our event.
Most of the games we play are on Board Game Arena, which is a website that coordinates playing some games online (and for free!). Most of the games we play tend to be light-to-medium modern euro-style games. Check it out and register in advance here: https://boardgamearena.com/
That being said, if there's a game people are interested in that's not featured on that site, we're open to playing elsewhere too, as long as people don't need to pay for anything.
For the most part, we decide what to play on the spot, but if you want to request a game to be played, you ask and gauge interest in the comments of this meetup, or in the #saturday-requests channel of our Discord.
Any other thoughts or questions? Feel free to message an organizer or leave a comment!7 attendees
