What we’re about
Unplug. Unwind. Connect.
Rediscover the joy of real connection through shared experiences and authentic friendships.
So Cal Explorers Meetup is the antidote to a hyper-digital, disconnected world. We gather for fun, relaxed outings to explore the most iconic, historic, quirky, and lesser-known corners of Southern California—together. Whether it's a walking tour, hike, museum visit, or movie night, our adventures are all about learning, exploring, and enjoying each other's company.
We're not a dating group. We're not a networking group. We're simply a welcoming space for adults to connect, laugh, and build friendships—without pressure, expectations, or hidden agendas.
Our crew is mostly progressive, slightly irreverent 40- to 60-somethings with a love for counter-culture and curiosity. But all open-minded adults (18+) are welcome!
Join us for hiking, historic tours, movies, museum visits, kayaking, presentations, live music, good food, great conversation, and spontaneous fun.
So Cal Explorers is where awkward small talk turns into epic friendships. Come along—we’re saving you a seat.

MOVIE NIGHT: THE CHORAL (WITH OPTIONAL EARLY DINNER)
AMC Orange 30, 20 City Boulevard West, Orange, CA, USI love me a period piece so genteel it feels adapted from a handwritten note abandoned in a teapot. If it doesn’t immediately make me want to buy a wool cardigan and develop a passion for marmalade, then I'll give up on British cinema. It's giving 84 Charing Cross Road vibes - I love that movie. If you feel the same way or even if you don't but you trust my brand of crazy, join us.

CRYSTAL COVE BEACH WALK & SUNSET
Crystal Cove State Park (Cameo Shores), Cameo Shores Rd and Hampden Rd, Newport Coast, CA, USNOTE THE DATE CHANGE!
CROSS-POSTED WITH HUMANIST HIKERS
Join us for a beach walk on beautiful Crystal Cove State Park. This is the second-lowest tide of the month (by 1/2").
https://www.tidetime.org/north-america/united-states/crystal-cove-calendar-jan.htm
I'm calling this a walk, rather than a hike. Walk at your own pace and turn around whenever you like. Just let someone know, so we don't wait or you.
DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED!
Date: Sunday, January 18 @ 1:20 pm
Location: Cameo Shores Rd & Hampden Rd, Corona del Mar, CA 92625
Weather permitting. Rain cancels!
Key Info:
- Meet and Greet at the Cameo Shores free parking area at 1:20 PM. Look for my dayglo yellow shirt and orange baseball cap.
- The hike departs Cameo Shores parking area promptly at 1:30 PM.
- For the paid parking, meet us at the north (Lot #1) restrooms at 1:40 PM.
- Low tide is 3:34 PM PST −0.91 ft
- Sunset is at 5:09 PM
About the walk:
The State Beach parking is rather pricey at $15, but you can park for free on the corner of Cameo Shores Road & Hampden Road, just off PCH south of Corona del Mar, NB about 1/4 mile away from the northern end of the park. If you choose to park at the beach parking lot, park in lot 1, walk on the paved path to the first restroom and we'll meet you there at 2:10. PLEASE LET ME KNOW AHEAD OF TIME IF YOU CHOOSE THAT OPTION, SO WE'LL KNOW TO LOOK FOR YOU!
We leave from Cameo Shores at 1:30 PM SHARP!
The total distance if we walk to Abalone Point, the southernmost point in the State Beach, and back is 8 miles, but feel free to walk as far as you like and turn around. Since the low tide occurs earlier in the afternoon than the previous times, I intend to go to the end, but I'll turn around so we get back before sundown, because that's when the park closes.
The best way to experience it IMO is to walk barefoot at the water's edge. I find this to be a very relaxing and meditative activity, but bring footwear that you can put on quickly for a bit of rocky terrain which we may have to cross, depending on the water level. Enjoy the sound of the ocean and the birds. Lots of sandpipers, terns. and seagulls to watch.
The Historic District, including the famous Shake Shack, is about half way down, 4 miles round trip. Just past the Historic District are some tidal pools where you can look for sea anemones, shrimp, crabs and other marine life. Whales, sea lions and dolphins can occasionally be seen from the beach.
Route: From the northern parking lot restrooms we will head north/west on the paved path toward the beach. We will turn right just before the ramp that leads down to the sand. We will walk past the golf course to a nice circular view point at the end of the path. Then we will walk down to the sand, check out the cave, and walk south toward Laguna Beach. At Abalone Point the official ceremony is to touch the furthest rock south that you can access.
We'll walk as far as we get and turn around around 3:30 so we can watch the sunset from the overlook. The park closes at sunset.
Rain cancels!
Essentials: Water, maybe a snack , sunglasses, flip flops or sandals, a hat or umbrella.

Charade
Director: Stanley Donen Run Time: 113 min. Release Year: 1963
Starring: Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, George Kennedy, James Coburn, Walter Matthau
"What better way is there to kick off our Classic Movie Nights series for 2026 than with the most charming game of cat-and-mouse ever put on screen? Join us for Charade—Stanley Donen’s irresistible mix of romance and suspense that pairs two of Hollywood’s brightest stars at the height of their powers.
After Regina Lampert (Audrey Hepburn) falls for the dashing Peter Joshua (Cary Grant) on a skiing holiday in the French Alps, she discovers upon her return to Paris that her husband has been murdered. Soon, she and Peter are giving chase to three of her late husband’s World War II cronies, Tex (James Coburn), Scobie (George Kennedy) and Gideon (Ned Glass), who are after a quarter of a million dollars the quartet stole while behind enemy lines. But why does Peter keep changing his name?
Often dubbed “the best Hitchcock movie Hitchcock never made,” Charade pairs up Hepburn and Grant along with some witty dialogue and glamorous locations for some of the most flirtatious thrills of all time!

When you visit Farm Sanctuary’s Southern California Sanctuary, you’ll know right away that it is a special place. Our Sanctuaries are home to rescued cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and other farm animals — and each has a special story. Their stories of struggle and survival, against all odds, give us insight into the realities farm animals face in the modern food system and also introduce us to inspiring individuals through their heartwarming tales. Animals who began their lives abused and neglected now spend their days digging in the dirt, basking in the sun, and napping in the straw. Each animal is given the freedom and attention needed not only to recover but to thrive.11 attendees
