SAFE SPACE AGREEMENT
Outdoor Activities runs programs that insist on a safe space agreement between participants, leaders, volunteers, and staff. We want to support everyone in exploring, enjoying, and protecting these phenomenal spaces, and hateful and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated. We don’t want to deny participation in these outdoor programs and we will always say no to racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, impairment, and disruption. This clearly outlines the expectations of those wishing to support the Sierra Club mission and values.
- If you’ve signed-up for an outing or event and begin to feel ill, please stay home and seek appropriate medical care.
- Participants are welcome to wear masks if it makes them comfortable.

Friday, August 1: Sierra Club and Beer -The Gardens of Los Pablanos
RSVP at www.riograndesierraclub.org/calendar/
We will focus on high desert gardening with a presentation from Judith Phillips, Landscape designer and garden writer. She'll share her newest book, the Gardens of Los Poblanos, and recount the history of these quintessential and world renowned gardens. She traces the history of these gardens and discusses how the gardens of Los Poblanos have helped preserve the deep agrarian roots of the village of Los Ranchos. She demonstrates how gardens are much more than plants. Her dedication to working with arid adapted native plants in her designs is based on their beauty, water conservation and ability to support wildlife in our high desert environment..Leader: Susan Gorman

Wilderness First Aid Course: 2 days
Register at: https://www.riograndesierraclub.org/calendar/Rio Grande Chapter of Sierra Club is sponsoring a Wilderness First Aid course especially geared toward our members. This course is in high demand and typically fills-up months in advance. The SOLO Wilderness First Aid Course is a 2-day first aid course that provides training for anyone that spends time hiking, skiing, engaged in other outdoor pursuits, or just wants to know what to do when things go south. The course is a blend of lecture, demonstrations and scenarios. Students will have ample opportunity to practice skills in life-like situations, both as patients and caregivers. At the successful completion of the two day course you will be certified or re-certified in Wilderness First Aid. Attendees must participate in all portions and hours of the course to obtain certification. Why attend?: People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? If you're ever more than an hour away from a hospital or one mile from any road you need to know what to do. Many backcountry emergencies are preventable, and even when bad things happen, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one-and maybe even save a life.
For more information on SOLO's curriculum, visit www.soloschools.com
Price: The price for the course is $200 per person.
When: September 13-September 14 (participants must commit to attend both days)
Class times: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day
Location: TBD but will be in the Albuquerque area

to be placed on the class list. Payment instructions will be sent in mid-August requesting a $65 deposit to hold your seat. Applicants will taken in the order that they register and pay by the deadline. Maximum class size is 22.
We reserve the right to retain the payment in the event of no-show or failure to make notification of inability to attend within 72 hours of class start time. This is because the instructor has to be paid anyway.
