Another opportunity for a day out visiting the gorgeous Allington Castle

Allington is a hidden gem in the Kent countryside, privately owned and only available for these unique tours. This medieval 12th-century castle is located about three miles northwest of Maidstone. The castle is fully furnished in keeping with its medieval origins, with tapestries and antique furniture, as well as the Great Hall, where Henry VIII & Anne Boleyn dined with Sir Thomas Wyatt around 1530.

We make the journey by coach to Maidstone where you can enjoy a little time in the town pre-cruise time, perhaps enjoy a light lunch or time to shop before we board the Kentish Lady cruise boat.

Sailing to Allington, we begin our tour of this historic castle. You will also have the opportunity to walk through the gardens with the castle stewards and gardeners.

On the return journey on the Kentish Lady, you will enjoy tea or coffee and cake before disembarking at Maidstone for the return journey

ACCESS AND MOBILITY: We board the Kentish Lady at the quayside in Maidstone and disembark at Allington. There will be a few steps to navigate. Castle Tour: Please note the tour consists of walking on natural outdoor terrain, through gardens and standing for period of time listening to the Gardener team at Allington. There will be a brief opportunity to sit down in the main hall of the Castle to learn more about this historic place but then exit via stone steps back into the garden. Allington Tour lasts approx 90 minutes in total, Kentish Lady 30 mins each way. Please contact us if you have any doubt as to whether this tour is suitable if you have limited mobility.

Lee Miller is one of the most fascinating figures of 20th century and now you can visit Farleys, her post-war Sussex home, now the centre of the Lee Miller Archives which cares for her photographs, papers and ephemera.

The exterior gives no hint of the visual excitements to be discovered within. Inside are brightly coloured walls, rambling corridors and rooms filled with artworks, all of which provides the visitor with a glimpse into the remarkable lives of its former occupants Lee Miller and Roland Penrose**.**

Pablo Picasso stayed in 1950, and visitors included Max Ernst, Joan Miró, Man Ray, Leonora Carrington, Eileen Agar, Kenneth Armitage, William Turnbull, John Craxton and Richard Hamilton. Works by many of these are displayed in the house, selections that regularly change as items are loaned to exhibitions in galleries around the world.

Farleys House remains alive and vibrant today as it documents Surrealism and modern art and in so doing informs our present day. Visits to Farleys House are by pre-booked guided tour only. Our visit includes coaching, House Tour, access to the Galleries and Sculpture Garden. Light refreshments are available to purchase in the Gallery.
