What we’re about
Hello! I am an independent trivia host who writes every single question myself and host (almost) every game I write, primarily in the Berkeley area.
You may have heard of me as “Trivia CA”, (follow me @playTriviaCA on Instagram!) but I am completely independent. I do sometimes collaborate with local hosts and trivia enthusiasts 😊 but my trivia is 100% local, 100% original, and 100% human-powered! My games are also never ticketed, always free-to-play, and there are always prizes to the top teams!
I'll create events in this group for featured games at each venue each month, but even if there isn't a Meetup event, the following is the standard schedule of trivia that I run!
Weekly Trivia Games
- Wednesdays 7pm @ Dog Haus Berkeley - With host Maddie!
- Wednesdays 7pm @ A NEW LOCATION TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON - With me, host Chris!
- Thursdays 7pm @ The BreakRoom - Find us in the basement speakeasy ;)
Monthly / Rotating Trivia Games
- 1st Monday each month: Varying theme trivia @ Raleigh's Pub
- 3rd Monday each month: General knowledge and pop culture trivia @ Raleigh's Pub (Next: January 19th)
Please check @PLayTriviaCA on Instagram for more info and notice in case there's unexpected cancellations.

I believe a good trivia night brings people together and brings them closer--and not just physically. My games are designed to inspire conversation, encourage deeper bonds, and through friendly competition, foster community. My trivia games are welcoming, friendly, and fun!
My typical game at most venues features 6 rounds and 60 questions of general knowledge trivia--a mix of topics, ranging in difficulty, including a picture round and a music clue round.
While I always do my best to make serious efforts to include a wide range of topics in each game, the style of trivia I craft leans toward current events and pop culture, popular media of the last 25 years, and the odd and unexpected places where old overlaps with new, niche intersects with the mainstream, and the intellectual collides with terminally online brainrot.
It's my hope that when a question is easy for you, you'll still feel excited I included the topic in the game and when a question is hard, you'll laugh when you hear the correct answer--whether you were right or wrong!
I'd like this group to be a way for members to connect and plan ahead to meet up and play trivia together. I'll be at (almost) every game myself running the show, but I'm also there to help make connections! When you arrive at any game, make sure to check in with me so I can connect you to other members of the group.
If you're solo that night--no problem! Trivia night is always a friendly and fun environment and I can usually find a team willing to take on a free-agent for the game and make a new friends.
Of course, if you'd like to bring your own team, please always feel free to do that! Anyone in the group may bring as many non-member friends as you'd like to each game--keeping in mind I typically have a soft team size limit of 7 players to a team. Larger teams are welcome, they just might not be allowed to take home the top prize for the game.
Hope to see you at a game soon!
