Lisa Weddell creates deeply textured mixed-media canvases and sculptures exploring the profound interconnectedness and inherent power struggle between humanity and nature. Blending design and studio art studies at Delaware County Community College and Thomas Jefferson University with a disciplined, self-directed practice, Lisa Weddell developed a unique material language.
Her work seamlessly merges traditional canvases and clay with organic elements and diverse fabrics, utilizing a foundational background in textile education to build raw, tactile topographies.
Rooted in the concept of Viriditas, Lisa Weddell’s practice is driven by a belief in the inherent magic of the earth. Their work captures a vast, universal perspective where all things… people, flowers, trees, sky, animals, and ocean… are bound by a singular living current.
Conceptually, they confront the cyclical motifs of life, death, love, and regrowth. Drawing from the philosophy of Kintsugi, their pieces honor pain and suffering, proving that fractures can be reclaimed to emerge stronger and more beautiful. Beneath these layered textures lies an intimate sanctuary for memory, eternal connection, and the triumphant reclamation of self-love.
Based in Pennsylvania, Lisa Weddell maintains a studio within a vibrant local art community, Aston Mills Arts, and frequently contributes to regional gallery exhibitions.
