Every IT department runs software that nobody wants to touch. It works, it is paid for, and it has not been upgraded in years. New European legislation is making that position hard to defend.
The Cyberbeveiligingswet (the Dutch implementation of NIS2), the EU AI Act, DORA for financial institutions and the Cyber Resilience Act for software products all set expectations for how quickly you find and fix vulnerabilities in the software you build and run. Almost every organisation that builds or runs software falls under at least one of them.
Doing nothing is no longer an option. Rebuilding everything usually is not either. This afternoon is about what sits in between.
