Our adventure begins at Trappers Alley, a historic gem in the heart of Greektown. This area, rich with character, gets its name from its early days as a hub for fur trading. With its lively atmosphere and unique architecture, it sets the perfect tone for our journey.
Next, we’ll stop at Astoria Bakery, a Greektown staple that’s been delighting visitors for decades with its array of baked goods. This family-owned spot combines old-world charm with mouthwatering sweets that pay homage to the neighborhood's Greek heritage.
From here, we head to the bustling area near the Shinola Hotel, where you can enjoy expertly crafted coffee and explore one-of-a-kind desserts that showcase the city’s creative culinary spirit. This neighborhood, recently revitalized, blends Detroit's industrial past with its thriving arts and culture scene.
In nearby Parker’s Alley, tucked behind the Shinola Hotel, you’ll find an artisanal chocolate shop where unique treats await. With its quaint cobblestone pathways and modern boutiques, Parker’s Alley feels like a hidden treasure in the midst of downtown.
Our tour continues to Cannelle, a beloved patisserie offering exquisite pastries. Drawing inspiration from French baking traditions, this spot adds a touch of elegance to Detroit's robust culinary landscape.
Finally, we’ll end at Campus Martius, the heart of downtown Detroit. This vibrant public square, steeped in history and surrounded by iconic skyscrapers, is a fitting place to conclude our journey. Take in the lively atmosphere and reflect on the sweet memories made along the way.

Some of the world’s most notorious criminals, mobsters, and gangsters bamboozled their way through Detroit. Meanwhile, some of history’s most infamous, brilliant, or honorable policemen tried to stop them. On our Felonies and Misdemeanors: The Detroit Cops and Mobsters Tour, escape into the city’s criminal underworld as we investigate stories about Jimmy Hoffa, Prohibition, The Purple Gang, “Joe the Hood,” The Gotham Hotel, and Detroit’s mob families.
You’ll hear the story of La Mano Nera—or Black Hand extortionists—in Detroit at the turn of the century. We’ll explore the illegal liquor wars of the 1910s. We’ll visit an iconic bar where we’ll learn about the police chief who resigned his appointment as a judge to bring “civility back to the police.” As we traverse the city, we’ll uncover the history of mobster-owned speakeasies and some of their most memorable raids.
From riots to rolling men into the river, from African American gambling rackets to Italian mobsters fixing professional football games, from hookers, madams, and street corner pimps to cops, mounted police, and mayors of all types—welcome to the criminal side of Detroit.
Because drinking and swearing are part of this history, all public bus tours are strictly for guests 21 years of age and older.
