About us
MakeHaven is a gathering place and workshop for makers, creators, tinkerers and dreamers. The environment supports the development of and collaboration on a wide variety of projects, including: mechanics, electronics, crafts, digital art, biology and woodworking. Through cooperative projects led by MakeHaven members the project and program participants gain a greater understanding of how to create, repair and reuse items. In addition to project-oriented activities the general public will benefit from skill building workshops hosted in the space.

Second Sundays: Monthly Maker Meetup: Scrap Swap!
MakeHaven, 770 Chapel St, New Haven, CT, USClear out your stash and find some new inspiration! For June’s Second Sunday, we are hosting a community scrap swap and a casual show and tell. This is the perfect opportunity to pass along usable materials you no longer need and pick up something fresh for your next project. Whether you have extra fabric, wood offcuts, or specialty paper, bring them in to trade with your fellow makers.
What to Expect
This is a relaxed, social meetup designed to help members connect and clear out their workspaces. We will have designated areas for different types of materials where you can drop off your scraps and browse what others have brought. In addition to the swap, we will have a low pressure show and tell. If you have a finished project or even a work in progress you are proud of, bring it along to share the story behind it with the group!
What to Bring- Usable Scraps: Bring materials that are still in good, workable condition. Think fabric quarters, wood pieces, leather scraps, or interesting papers.
- Show and Tell Items: Bring a project you have recently finished or something you are currently working on.
- Snacks to Share: We’ll provide some basic refreshments, but feel free to bring along a favorite treat to share if you are feeling inspired.
Who Should Join
This meetup is open to the public and makers of all stripes. If you enjoy making things and meeting creative people, you belong here! This session is all about sharing tips, finding unique materials, and seeing the amazing variety of work happening in the shop.

Sans Serif Recording Studio Tour and Learning Exchange

The tour will be followed by a discussion of lessons learned related to operating small recording studios and they'll be just some discussion about how that may apply to the make-haven media room. Or how people can graduate from the media room to doing more professional level recording.

This recurring event, dedicated to the joys of knitting and crochet, offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with fellow crafters in a setting that's both warm and welcoming. Scheduled for the 4th Sunday of every month from 12pm to 3pm, this meetup is a haven for those looking to dive into their projects, exchange ideas, and foster a vibrant, creative community.
What to Expect:
- Expect a nurturing environment for textile artist enthusiasts at all levels of expertise. This is a social space designed to cultivate an inclusive, creative community. You will have dedicated project time to make headway on your current piece or start something new. This is your chance to participate in engaging conversations, exchange tips, and brainstorm on future projects.
What to Bring:
- Projects and Materials: Bring your knitting needles, crochet hooks, and any other work in progress projects (including your own yarn, thread etc).
- Resources to Share: If you have helpful guides, patterns, or insights, feel free to bring them along to share with the group.
- Personal Tools: Since this is not a taught class, ensure you have all the specific tools required for your individual project.
Who Should Join
Anyone who shares a passion for knitting, crocheting, needlework, or any textile craft. Whether you are looking to meet like-minded individuals, find inspiration, or simply enjoy a few hours of crafting in great company, you are welcome to join this flourishing community.
